I've read the book, and I served under him on the 1st Armor
I've read the book, and I served under him on the 1st Armored Division staff from before the war until he took over as V Corps/CJTF-7 commander. Contrary to the reviewer below, I never had the impression he was clueless. He was and is highly intelligent, aggressive, and disciplined, as our generals tend to be. I also think his descriptions of the difficulties faced in the early part of the war in Iraq, many of them brought about by poor higher-level planning and rosy assumptions, are accurate. They ring true from what I saw personally.

As for the book, it is well written. The lessons of LTG Sanchez' career I think are pretty standard ones. The major weakness of the book is the tendency, common to many if not most military autobiographies, to transplant hindsight into the defense of one's own decisions. I do not think LTG Sanchez anticipated the kind of conflict we were going to get into in Iraq, and I don't think he completely understood the nature of that conflict as it developed before our eyes. The truth is, most of us were at least somewhat surprised, and figuring it out as we went along. Still, I would recommend this book for anyone interested in the early development of the war in Iraq, from the planning through the first year. -

Interesting
For a man who by literally every account of the war , was clueless and completely in over his head, Mr Sanchez writes like he at least knew he was in Iraq and there was a war going on. Must be a ghost writer!

General Sanchez is a true National Hero and Treasure
It was refreshing to get such a detailed account of the life and career of such an important person. General Sanchez worked so hard all his life for his family and his country. I was so inspired and at times I was tears to see the lack of support he got from a few of the higher ups in our own government.
