Successful on every level- read, enjoy, and learn.

There are several good reasons to read Witches on the Road Tonight. Sheri Holman is an imaginative writer; her stories take unexpected turns that captivate the reader. As with her previous works, careful research gives a ring of authenticity to this book. Read Witches on the Road Tonight initially for a first rate story, in which the incredible becomes credible. Contemplate the aura of fear that has invaded our culture. Then reread this novel for a master class in the art of writing. Holman's use of language creates indelible images- a moving picture in your mind. Every phrase-each word- has a purpose. Few contemporary authors equal her skill. If your book club entertains serious discussions, this would be a wise pick.

    Blood Will Tell

Some people avoid digging into the past, thinking it's over and irrelevant and hardly matters in the present day. After all, the present is hard enough to get through. But those who came before us--lives lived before our own--inform our present and have passed down legacies that continue to haunt the lives we live.

Sheri Holman has done the digging for us, with a dark, beautifully realized Witches on the Road Tonight. Holman peels back the curtain from three generations of one family's secrets and lays bare the fears that keep them on the run. From the flickering images of a silent film projected on an Appalachian cabin wall to the nonstop fear-mongering of cable news, the Alley family is haunted by the dark spirits that chase you down in the darkness. Holman's story is addictive and her prose often magical.

This is an altogether different experience than the previous Sheri Holman book I've read (The Dress Lodger), but her gift for creating vivid atmosphere and eye for detail remain captivating. Highly recommended.

    more from this reviewer

Not as good as the Dress Lodger

I loved this author's first book the Dress Lodger and still remember the details of the book because it was a wonderful read. This book bored me, it all seemed so pointless and never went anywhere. I had to read the overview at one point so I could figure out why the story did a complete turnaround in characters. I wasn't able to finish it.
