I really enjoy a romance book that sucks you in with deeper undertones of trust, courage, communication and risking your heart to find
your truth.  This heavily BDSM themed novel hits all of those points for me.  Julia knows she does not want a man to control her and
seeks only ‘nice’ men i.e. boring and bland.  When she attends her best friend Lana’s wedding, she is shocked at the epilogue – a
collaring ceremony.  Seeing her friend on her knees pledging to submit to her new husband is more than Julia can stand.  This part is
really hilarious.  Fortunately she is prevented from interrupting by Marcus, a Dom friend of the groom.  He recognizes what Julia does
not; she is a natural submissive.  Julia is curious and after some (ahem) persuasion, agrees to explore so Marcus proceeds to educate
her in the lifestyle.  And what an education!!  With teachers like that, I’d never leave school!

I read many BDSM themed books and this one added to my knowledge in a most satisfying way.  You could see the progression as Julia
struggled – fighting all the way - to come to terms with the concept of a submissive holding all of the power.  I really like how the author
described those moments when Julia ‘gets it’.  Those light bulbs going off were blinding. This was a fast read with lots and lots of hot,
steamy, very erotic sex.  But overall it is a love story of two people who manage to connect in a way the rest of us dream about.  At least if
you love dominant men.  Sigh…

This book felt very rushed to me. One second she is stating she doesn't like domineering men, the next she is letting one spank her. The whole story line felt like something you would read out of a column in some sort of bdsm weekly magazine. It lacked depth. Comparing this author with Jenna Jacob, this author comes across as a newbie to the lifestyle. When trying to write a book about the depth of feeling needed for bdsm, a writer should really take their time. The most focus was placed on the sex scenes, which still left much to be desired. If I could have given negative stars it would probably be at -15.

Kinky fantasy - HOT, BDSM reality - NOT

I had read this book sometime ago and had forgotten to do a review. The story was basically BDSM 101. It also was shorter than I like a novel to be. The story was steamy but it wasn't very realistic and could have been written better had it been longer. The author should have taken her time developing a relationship between Marcus and Julia. The fact that Julia had no clue that her "best friend" was into an aternative lifestyle just seemed stupid, and to not be forwarned about the ceremony was a totally rude thing to do to a friend.
Kinky fantasy - HOT, BDSM reality - NOT.

    An Understanding

Julia is an independent woman who equates being submissive with being a doormat. Marcus is a dominant male who shows Julia the error of her thoughts through expriencing the BDSM lifestyle.
Communication and trust go between Marcus and Julia eventhough she doesn't want a dominate man. Or does she? Julia gains an understanding of a D/s relationship and what it means to be submissive. Worth reading.
