    A nice read!

The book starts off telling the story of a mental patient Mutt (the younger brother) until he escapes, then Tucker Rain (the older brother) takes over the story. The transition between storytellers was seamless though. It's a story about two boys who grew up with an abusive father and relied on Miss Ella for protection. Miss Ella was a deeply religious black woman who was a combination housekeeper/nanny. Although she wasn't allowed to take the boys to church, she manages to instill in them the love of God.

It's a question as to which character is the main character because they each play such an important role. The story wouldn't be complete without any of them. The author does and excellent job of weaving this story and bringing it to it's comforting conclusion. This book reads more like a biography than a fictional book. Although it started off slow, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to friends.

Worth every minute of your reading! Highly recommended -

Charles Martin has a tremendous understanding of relationships. He writes in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat all through his books. This beautiful book shows the hatred of those whose only desire is for those things they can accumulate. It reveals the heart of those who understand that relationships are what matters in this life. What you live with as a child will be taken with you into your adulthood, the good, the bad, the wounds and the healing power of love. It will cause you to ponder how you will live and how you will treat those who are a part of your daily life.

    A great read!

Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin

Tucker Rain faces many difficulties in his life, chief among them the disgust he harbors for his father. The only hope he has as a child is found in his nanny, Miss Ella. She cares for Tucker and his half-brother Mutt, the way a loving mother would. After Miss Ella's death, Tucker must deal with life the best way he can, which is to bury himself in his work as a world class photographer. One day, his life changes. During a chance encounter, he rescues his childhood sweetheart, on the run from her abusive husband. Her presence in his life forces him to deal with old issues of unforgiveness. When his half-brother disappears from the residential mental hospital where he has been confined, Tucker must face more of his past demons. Through it all, he is guided by the wisdom of Miss Ella and sees the answers to her prayers.

Charles Martin writes a compelling story of love, pain, forgiveness and grace. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like I knew the characters when the book was done. If the book had a sequel, I would put it on my reading list, however, the ending was satisfying enough to stand alone. I enjoyed the tone of the story. It was not too romantic nor too suspenseful, but was a tantalizing blend of both. This was the second of his books that I had read and I would definitely read more. Booksneeze provided me with a complimentary copy and this is my honest review.

    Wonderful Read!

    Wrapped in Rain
    By: Charles Martin

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I must admit that it started out just a bit slow, but as the story unfolded it became enthralling. As I read, I felt as if I had entered the world of Tucker, Mutt, Katie, and Jase. I felt the influence of Miss Ella and wish I could have known her. The characters simply came to life. It felt like I could jump into the pages of the book and share a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone with them.

Tucker and Mutt did not grow up in an ideal family. The violence they experienced should never happen to a person, let alone a child. However, in this evil world, violence does happen. The boys must face the demons of their past. They must understand and then forgive before they can move beyond it and really begin to live. They must learn that violence does not have to lead to hate and more violence. Love can overcome and each of us would be wise to remember this.

Miss Ella's influence was a key ingredient in learning to get past their violent past. Miss Ella was an example, an example that each and every person would do well to follow. If there were more Miss Ella's around the world would be a better place.

I will be checking out other books by Mr. Martin.

Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishing for a sample book to review.

Some books leave their mark on the reader and this one touched me

Some books leave their mark on the reader and this one touched me. When I first started reading, Martin's imagery captivated me. The story, places and people came to life with each word I read. Wrapped in Rain focuses on the turbulent childhoods of Tucker and Mutt Mason. It is a poignant look at a childhood, steeped in violence, and the woman who helped them through it. Tucker's story is told in first person and Mutt's in third. Martin does a great job of breaking these into chapters, so that the reader is never lost. The novel reflects on the boys now and on key moments in their past. Martin takes the reader on an emotional, thought provoking ride while delivering a message of love, hope and man's ability to overcome.

Tucker and Mutt are the sons of Rex Mason, a man who can turn a dime into gold. He drinks excessively, and often turns to violence. Rex takes it out on his sons and their housekeeper/caretaker, a black woman named Miss Ella. While he spends most of his time in Atlanta, his time spent at home (Waverly Hall) is a time of great fear for the boys and Miss Ella.

I fell in love with each of the characters. Events in their childhood forever change them. I felt their pain, shared in their joy and just wanted to hug them.

Miss Ella is a wise woman, blessed by her love for the lord. She loves the boys as if they were her own. She tries to protect them, and empower them to become better men than their father. She deeply touches all those around her.

Tucker has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He is such a good man, but lives in fear of becoming his father. Despite all of his success, the little boy inside him wants his Daddy's approval.

Mutt is a troubled soul. He has spent the last seven years in a mental institute dealing with the voices in his head. I truly loved him and found myself rooting for him every step of the way.

Katie, Mutt and Tucker's childhood friend returns to Waverly Hall, escaping a bad marriage. She arrives with Jase, her five year old son. Each has a profound effect on the boys. Katie, despite her own trials in life, is able to help the boys move forward. Through Jase, Tucker is able to see himself and what could have been.

Wrapped in Rain isn't the kind of book you read in a day. It's one you read slowly, digest, and savor. The wisdom of Miss Ella will stay with me forever. Some books touch you and stay with you. Wrapped in Rain is one of those. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A special thank you to Book Sneeze for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review.

    Highly Recommended!

Wrappped in Rain follows the story of two half brothers, adults, trying to survive the fallout of their abusive childhoods. As children, Tucker and Mutt's saving grace was their housekeeper Miss Ella and her brother Mose, the town physician. Miss Ella infused love, grace and compassion in an otherwise unbearable home.

While both men struggle with their memories of their abusive father in their own ways, their childhood friend Katie returns with as a single mom with a son of her own. Tucker and Mutt set out to follow Miss Ella's example by teaching love to a child not biologically their own.

This novel is beautifully written. Martin writes so clearly that you have no trouble imaging Waverly House and the Mason family's troubles. However, while the story rooted in darkness, the overall theme is one of hope and endurance. All of the characters demonstrate a strength of character and an amazing capacity for forgiveness. At the last page, you are left wanting to read another chapter to find out what happened with Tucker, Mutt, Katie, and Jase.

This is the first book I've read by Charles Martin. It will not be the last! I can't wait to read more.

Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin

Good afternoon! I've just received a new book from booksneeze, "Wrapped in Rain" by Charles Martin. Before I get started, however, I must say that I received this book for free from the booksneeze blogger program from the Thomas Nelson publishing company, and I am under no obligation to give this book a positive review. Everything I say is how I legitimately feel. Now, on with the show! This book felt kind of slow in the beginning, but after I muscled through the beginning, the book was very hard to put down. Tucker Mason leads what most people would consider a successful life- but what most people don't see is the anger he still carries for his father and the pain he still harbors from his past. Raised by his housekeeper, a devout Christian, Tucker has moved away from his home, yet not moved on. When things happen in his life, he is forced to go back to the house that he thought he had left behind. Even though the woman who raised him is gone, he can almost still hear her prayers. But coming out of the darkness himself will take a mightier grace than he can scarcely believe in. This book was very good, I give it four out of five stars.

Don't let the slow beginning fool you this turns out to be a great book

Charles Martin really knows how to spin a story. While the book started out slow for me once it picked up momentium it became a book I couldn't put down.

Tucker Mason and his brother Mutt were raised by their housekeeper, Miss Ella Rain who was a nice christian lady. She showed them love and protected them from their abusive, alcholic father. Tucker grows up to become a famous photographer but his brother Mutt didn't fare so well, and wound up in a mental hospital because he suffers from schizophrenia as well as other issues. As the boys grew up their past pains from their father haunted them, but they learn that to find peace within themselves they must find forgiveness for their father.

I really liked the southern feel of this story. Miss Ella Rain certainly loved the two boys as her own and really took care of them, she continued to affect them long after she passed away. I thought the story of Katie and Jase was interesting as well.

Overall it took me several pages to become invested in the story but I am glad that I stuck it out because it became a story that I hated to see end.

    Wrapped in Rain

'Wrapped in Rain' is quite a difficult story for me to read. It is highly emotional and made me think that no matter how one tries to escape the past, they can never do that. One can never be free of their past, unless they're brave enough to face it.

One thing I learned from this book is about unwavering faith will save one's soul. Prayers too.

Overall, it's not a bad book to read. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Thomas Nelson Publisher and I was not required to write a positive review for this book.

    Emotionally charged

For me "Wrapped In Rain" is a powerful book. Emotionally charged and a page turner indeed.

It made me sad reading the part about Tucker and Mutt's childhood. Having a rich and alcoholic father leaves them same as having no father at all. All the child care responsibility was pass to Miss Ella Rain. Though she have her own dreams and desire, but she sacrificed them in order to bring up the two kids.

Maybe some of the goodness of Miss Ella had rubbed off on Tucker as he too have similar characteristic as her.

The author indeed is very good with word play. Each sentence is beautifully phrase. Some may find this tedious and long winded but not me. For this enable me to enjoy the story to its fullest and yet feel the feelings that each characters were generating.

Kudos to the author for he not only tried to tackle the matter of alcoholism, abuses, faith in God but also the matter of mental illness which is on the rise these days. He also many to draw vividly to the readers on how hard it is for family members to deal with that. All the heartache involved.

Yes, this is a truly good book to read. I give it 5 stars

Good book with a slow start.

Sometimes it seems to take forever for a book to get itself into a story, and this was one of those books. For the first hundred pages I felt I was moping along hoping for a break to kick in the pace. There were a few redeeming moments that made it difficult to dislike Wrapped in Rain though.
Tucker Rain left his hometown to pursue his photography career, and also escape his past. The wisdom of Ms. Ella never leaves him though, and guides him back home. After spending years running from his past he returns home to find his childhood friend, Katie, on the run, and that his brother, Mutt, has escaped from a mental home. Instead of shoving these issues to his side he faces his abandoned brother, and his abusive father to resolve his past.
As I mentioned the biggest issue I had with this book is that it took a while for the book to catch my interest. The characters were well developed though, and I found Mutt to be the most complex, and interesting. The story covers a lot of topics that are difficult to discuss including, abuse, alcoholism, abandonment, and mental issues. It does a very good job of depicting these issues.
The book was good, but the flashbacks are threw in, and for me it took away from the growth of the story. I knew they had to be there to explain why some things were significant, but it was difficult to get through at times.

A Novel of Heartache and Redemption

Wrapped In Rain Charles Martin Thomas Nelson Publisher Christian Fiction 5 Stars Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin is one of those books that is hard to put down. There are times in the book where he seem to stay on one subject for quite a lengthy time but I overlooked that and got into the deepness of the story. The story really revolves around two brothers and their housekeeper along with their alcoholic father. Tucker Mason now well known for his photography has a hard time forgiving his father. Growing up on a vast southern estate he had everything that most boysjust dream of ever having, a big house and acres to roam, but the one thing he was denied was the love of his father. The bottle meant more to him then his son and he grew up in the throngs of hell. With the housekeeper Miss Ella Rain, Tucker learns the meaning of love as she wraps him in her arms. With his younger brother Matthew(Mutt)they grew up going their separate ways,Tucker into Photography and Mutt into a mental hospital. Mutt escapes from the hospital and Tucker is forced to return back home. Here he comes to the point where he has to face his tragic past. Even though she has been gone for a long time he can still recall Miss Ella's words, and hear her prayers. The secret she whispered that he carried with him was; "Life is a battle, but you can't fight it with your fists". "You got to fight it with your heart". This is the 3rd book that I have read of Charles Martins and I have to say I enjoyed it as well as the others. It teaches forgiveness, and love and the power that God can have in one's life. One thing I have found with Mr. Martins books is they seem to deal with real life. Even though the characters and novel are fiction.. The book is deep and some may have a hard time getting into it. I have found that novels like this if one read them slower than they usually read they will get a fuller detail of the story. I received this complimentary copy from the Thomas Nelson and their Book Sneeze Bloggers program. A positive review was not required and the opinion of this book is based on my own thoughts of the book

    Tugs on your Heart Strings!

Wrapped in Rain is one of those books that are hard to put down. Charles Martin is very descriptive in everything in this book. His words really jump off the page to you. Allowing you to feel and really see everything that is happening. There were points of laughter and points of tears. Charles is such an emotional writer. This is the first book I have read of Mr. Martins but I will be a fan of him from here on out.
How does your childhood reflect your adult hood?
The boys in this story have horrible scars from the relationship with their father. Thankfully they find comfort in Miss Ella Rain. Miss Elle Rain is like a wall, protecting Tucker and "Mutt" from their father Rex. Rex is their mean alcoholic, but very wealthy father. Miss Rain sacrifices everything to make sure these boys know they are loved and to make sure they know they are loved by God.
Soon after Miss Ella Rain's death, Tucker found fame as an international photographer, never really forgetting his past. Tucker admits "Mutt" into a mental health facility due to his obsessive-compulsive paralyzing fear of coming into contact with germs.
Soon, the boys come in contact with a childhood friend, Kate. Tucker and Kate take a romantic turn, which is great in my opinion. A little romance never hurt anyone. It only makes things better.
With every chapter, this book gets better and better. Twist and turns that you would never expect.
    A Must read!
Thank you BookSneeze for allowing me to receive this free E-Book, through the book review for bloggers program.

    Powerful Reading

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I read all the time. This book had everything I want in a book. I couldn't put it down. I gave it to my daughter to read. She doesn't read much at all. She told me later she was spell bound by the book and couldn't stop reading. This is the first review I have ever written, but could not miss the chance to encourage you to read this book.
