A real wake up call.
Kostigen does all the leg work as he takes us to the earth's most polluted, environmentally corrupt places to remind us of one beautiful truth: we are all connected by the earth. We are all affected by what we do to it.
He links my toothpaste to the gangster-run logging camps and palm oil industry of Borneo. He explores the world's dirtiest city, Linfen City, China and how it affects global climate change and investigates a garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean twice the size of Texas! Why is this the first time I'm hearing about this?!
He travels to these ugly places, deals with shady guides, guards and gatekeepers to open our eyes. He urges us to live simply and be conscious of what we use.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Purchased as a text for a new class. He writes as a visitor and first hand investigator of the places he discusses.
The book is an easy read. I am not sure about the accuracy of the information as I am not knowledgeable about world wide sustainablity and international treatment of forests and waterways. The book was interesting for base knowledge. I disagree with some of the things he said though after reading and doing my own research.

You Are Here by Thomas Kostigen
I thought YOU ARE HERE was the best I've read so far on the environment, and I have been reading on this topic for 20 years! A lot of books focus on just one problem, i.e. global warming or e-waste, etc. but this book was all-encompassing. It had enough facts and figures to make it credible but not so many that book became boring. It was a great book -- interesting and illuminating.
