Very Happy I Decided to buy this book!
I am a new comic and have read Judy Cater's, 'Stand Up Comedy: The Book' and David Schwensen's, 'How to be a Working Comic' (not in that order). Both are GREAT books, plus I have taken a 6 week comedy course in Atlanta. I found 'Zen and the Art of Stand-Up Comedy' to be EXTREMELY helpful in understanding how to be a better comedian. Jay Sankey helped me have a deeper understanding of doing stand-up. The analogy he uses of 'Having a good set is like having good sex... it takes TWO' referring to the other memeber as the audience, is just an example of how he helps clarify what he has learned in his years of experience. I am new to doing stand-up and have done well on all my performances, but through Jay's book, I feel I have taken leaps into having a better stage presence. After reading his book, I decided to change my style and 'bump it up a few notches'. In comedy it is 10% material, and 90% delivery... Jay's book concentrates more on the delivery. Judy Carter's book is great for digging up material and is more of a work book. David Schwensen's book is good for learning more about the business of stand-up. If you are interested in being a better about stand-up, I recommend reading 'Zen and The Art of Stand-Up Comedy.'

A friend of mine who is also a comedian told me about this book when I let him know I was looking at doing some stand up. This book is full of great information that any new comedian can use. I recommend it to anyone who is thinking about being a comedian. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
