Great designs but the pattern format is AWFUL

I've been cross stitching for over 20 years, since I was a small child. The format used for these patterns is the worst I have ever seen, bar none. The industry standard is to use symbols to stand for the different colors of floss. For some insane, bizarre reason, the creator of these patterns chose to completely dismiss the standard and instead use simple colored squares. For designs where there are only a few highly contrasting colors, this works fine, but for many of these designs, which are quite detailed and use several similar colors to produce shading, this is an absolute nightmare. I had to use an Ottlite pointed right at the pattern in order to distinguish the very similar colors it uses. It's an incredibly frustrating experience trying to stitch from these patterns as written. I love the designs, but it's a nightmare trying to create them; I really hope this kit will be reissued some day with the patterns formatted in the industry standard way (which is a standard for a VERY good reason!). I'll think twice before purchasing any more kits from Barnes and Noble, and most especially from the designers of this kit.
