Scott Kelby is a master teacher. His task-oriented approach is, page-by-page, the most concise and lucid guide to accomplishing specific tasks that come up during digital post-capture processing that I've found. He doesn't expect me to already be familiar with the ins-and-outs of Layers or Masks, or the various Filters, or any of the other wide realsm of Photoshop functions in order to be able to use one or the other to accomplish some discrete task. You don't have to read the whole d...d book, just turn to the page that covers, step-by-step, what you need to do. It is, incidentally, accompanied by many well-chosen, helpful screen-shots of sample images and the sorts of specific dialogue boxes you'll encounter in the process of doing what you want to do. Since getting this book the other seven or eight Photoshop guides I own have remained on the shelf gathering dust! Did I mention that in my opinion this is a great Photoshop guide?

This is a very useful Photoshop reference book. Rather than simply listing Photoshop functions and describing each tool individually in painful detail, Mr. Kelby illustrates how to combine functions and options to get the job done. The procedures that are described in this reference are the procedures that digital photographers are likely to need and use. This book is my preferred Photoshop reference book.
