I truly enjoyed this. The short stories (asylum tales) helped to flesh this out. Read them first.

I normally gravitate to books with a female protagonist or a male/female combo with the option of paranormal kinkiness. This book has a male protagonist, and was still quite good. Similar to Jim Butcher novels. Quite a bit of action, magic, paranormal activity, and a little "will-they-won't-they" suspense.

I thought this book had potential but ended up being too dark for me. It did not have enough light or good to balance out the bad. Even our Hero does things for selfish reasons and not for the good of anyone else really. It just did not follow through. Too much language, and darkness and a graphic sex scene totally out of character of the book and not needed in any way.

I'm finding the story lines and premise is fabulous but I'm bristling at the description of the interactions with the love interest. Everything is so melodramatic and based on appearance. I get it. He loves her boobs and blond hair. What about the rest of her? Also, this is coming off as a man has to save the woman type book. So over it.

Free friday book.....it was good and I'd read more of Drake's books. Only difficulty that I had....kept forgetting the main char was male! Author may want to work on her masculine voice. :)

I read this as the Free Friday book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure, it is a tiny bit obvious with the renegade good guy and the knock out female (damsel in distress) although she did seem quite feisty, and the good strong friend, but the chemistry came through and the personalities were well fleshed out. Creative uses of various legends and genres, magic, faeries, even vampires and werewolves! I would recommend highly!

It jumps around a bit but it has you hooked until the end. Can't wait to read the next book!

I previewed this book months ago for the bookstore I work at (merchandising specialist) and loved it! I used it as a staff pick too. The action starts immediately and keeps on going. I absolutely recommend!

I liked this first book in the series.it seems as though Gage has a very active life with lots of plot twists and turns. I can't evenbegin to imagine what will happennexy. My interest is piqued to know what will happen next, but I'm not in a panic to do so. The book was good, with caring and compassionate characters that were not the norm. Overall, I recommend this book to others.

Question for potential book club discussion: Does one Very Explicit sex chapter make this pornography? And does this ruin what is otherwise an entertaining story? I would like to read more of the characters (very reminiscent of Jim Butcher's wonderful Harry Dresden, but without the clever quips), but will forego future volumes if they come with explicit descriptions of body parts and their functions.

Warlocks and Elves, Oh my. Throw in magic tattoos, witches, warlocks and love, great read.

I wasn't sure I would like this book until I started reading and then I was hooked. It was great reading all the way to the end.

This story has you rooting for the characters and wondering what will happen next. I plan to read the next book too.

I did not believe this would be as good as it turned out. I do not have a strong base in sci-fi lit so someone who does would know more about the characters and their normal traits based on what supernatural being they were. But, I was still able to follow along and enjoyed the book a good deal. I will read more by Drake.

Dynamic tale with never ending plot twists. Leads a good story to the second installment.

I picked this book up as a Free Nook Book Friday. It is enjoyable. It's easy to like the characters and the every day problems and arguments are, well, human. Ok, not quite. But you'll have to pick up a copy to find out.

I enjoyed reading this new take on the urban fantasy story, Until I hit the utterly unnecessary sex scene. Snip that out and you've got a good tale.

This is a fantasy world with strange creatures AND an urban setting. I found the chatacters under developed, but I didn't start with the author's short stories. Not appropriate for young readers due to sexual content

This is typically my favorite genre but minus the 1 unnecessary mild sex scene this book could be part of a series for young teenagers. Written front the hero's perspective the balance of the main characters have not been developed properly. I had to force myself a bit to finished. I will not be buying the balance of the books. Anti climactic.......

An urban fantasy book with a male lead that’s not all about how “sexy” and irresistible he is? Sounds like a pipe dream, but Gage is a great character and the world that Jocelyn Drake created is as complex as only the best of tattoos are. The world where Gage lives and works as a tattoo artist is one where Warlocks and Witches ruthlessly rule over everyone on Earth, even the magical races. At some point in the book we meet everything from vampires, werewolves, and elves to the Grim Reaper, Charon, and more. The situations Gage gets into after accidentally tattooing a girl into immortality get more complicated by the page, but actually work to lead him in the right direction. Every step of Gage’s journey is a new surprise for the reader, and he’s such a great guy that you can’t help but root for him to survive. One thing I didn’t particularly like was how every single time the love interest “Trixie” is described, we have to read thru how physically perfect her body is. Once is expected, twice is a reminder, the fifth time was a bit annoying. A lot is left up in the air at the end, but I feel like there was enough of a resolution to the BIG things that I’m willing to forgive that for the great world building and storytelling.
