About the Author

Gayle Asch has been teaching Art in the New York City public schools since 1993. She currently teaches at the elite Bronx High School of Science. Many of her students have won awards for their artwork and have continued their studies of Art History in college. Ms. Asch received her B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, an M.A. from the College of New Rochelle and her M.S. from Mercy College.

Matt Curless received both his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Master of Arts in Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. Since 1995, Mr. Curless has taught a wide range of art courses, including Art Foundations, Drawing & Painting, Photography, Computer Graphics, Web Design, Yearbook, and his favorite, AP Art History. His AP Art History website has won national acclaim from teachers who use his PowerPoint presentations in their own classrooms.
He has also been a Fine Arts faculty member with the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program for the past 14 years. In April 2008, Mr. Curless received a “Teacher of the Week” award from the Warm98 radio station in Cincinnati, and was honored as Great American Insurance Company’s Teacher of the Year in May 2008. Every other August, Mr. Curless travels to Europe with his wonderful wife Danielle to experience Art History firsthand, and always encourages his students to do the same. He has been an Art and Technology teacher at Glen Este High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, since 1999.

We would also like to thank Fran Bolte for her in-depth editing of this manuscript. Fran has been an Art teacher since 1972 in public school systems in Indiana, Georgia, and Texas. She has taught AP Art History for 10 years and served as a reader for the AP Art History Exam for the last five years. Her other achievements include high school curriculum revision, Fine Arts textbook evaluation, staff development, and a cadre member of the Center for Educator Development in the Fine Arts in Texas. She has assisted the Executive Fine Arts Director in Carrollton- Farmers Branch Independent School District in Texas since 2001. She was named the Administrator/Supervision Art Educator of the Year in 2011 by the Texas Art Education Association.
