This second book in the series is a good read and worth your time. Ian Douglas sets up a story of "we want revenge for something, but we're not sure what that something was". Trust me, you need to read the previous book to understand that statement. Do yourself a favor, read the first book in this series before attempting this one. The central character is the key to mankind making peace with a race of fish like beings who are - so to speak - in the same predicament as mankind. "We Who Are" has kicked these poor fish like creatures nearly back into the stone age, but they still have a few technological tricks that allow mankind to get a "leg up" on the bad boys of the galaxy. Needless to say, mankind's ability to be a tool builder and crafty enough to borrow technology from anyone who will share it, will eventually even the odds against the bad boys from the heart of the galaxy. Ian Douglas creates a very believable world where the "rats in the wall" have survived to come back and lend a hand toward some serious booty busting of the xenophobic bad boys of the galaxy. If you like this series, you should also take a look at "The Lost Fleet" series by Paul Campbell.
