In Holly Grove at the Michigan Renaissance festival someone apparently attacked armorer Conn leaving him suffering from amnesia. Accountant Rae Blissfield's festival parents volunteer her to provide Conn a place to heal, which he accepts. Conn and Rae are attracted to one another, but he is unsure whether he should proceed unaware of whom he might have a relationship with already and she is prim and proper, the opposite of her festive parents. As he begins to regain his memory, they fall in love. However, he realizes he is undercover working to shut down a counterfeit ring operating inside the festival that will also be closed once he exposes the felons working with impunity from within. That is if he and his "partner" can continue to elude the "Three Stooges" sent to shut him down permanently. This is an entertaining romantic frolic starring two likable lead characters, her charming parents (and the other festival players), and the slapstick thugs. The story line is fast-paced and filled with humor as well as romance (especially the heroine's fantasies re her new roommate. Fans will enjoy this zany amusing romantic suspense. Harriet Klausner

Can I just say "I have never read a bad Penny McCall book"! And this latest one is no exception. We met the hero, "Conn" in the backstory of a previous book with him working undercover at a Medieval Faire keeping an eye on the Bliss family. In this book, we are introduced to Rae (Sunny Bliss) Blissfield...a conservative accountant who was raised in this "fringe" community by parents who follow the Faire. Rae rebelled against her "gypsy" lifestyle and adopted a life that is so far from how she grew up it's left her a little "uptight". Enter Conn, an FBI Agent who because of an attack, now thinks he "IS" a blacksmith living in Medieval times...complete with growing wonder of the modern things he sees once he leaves the fair. Counterfeiters, swordplay, car chases, fringe folk, a alpha blacksmith (FBI) and a strong heroine who is fighting (unsuccessfully) against her return to her liberal "roots" makes for a story I didn't want to end.
