I purchased this book looking for camera specific information on mastering my Powershot A520. I was especially interested in close focusing and manual focusing. It is not model specific and was less help than the manual that came with the camera. I hoped for more detail in mastering other functions of the camera as well but was dissapointed. As it turned out, more experimentation was the best teacher. If you have a powershot and are new to photography, this could be helpful. If you have carefully read your manual and have read some on photography, this book will likely be a review. I returned this book (Barnes and Noble was great about the return) and bought "Macro Photography Photo Workshop" by Jan Kamps, which had as much information on focus and a lot on composition and getting the most out of a point and shoot (and of course dSLRs) up close.

I liked this book very much. It is organized into sections pertaining to specific models of the Canon Powershot Digital Camera and also sections pertaining to functions of the cameras. It is very well laid out and very easy to understand. The book contains many actual pictures of the cameras, as well as pictures of the screens and icons. The functions are thoroughly explained and often, there are actual photographs included showing the outcome, and comparing different functions and settings. I also like the dimensions and size, it's easy to bring this book along pretty much anywhere. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who might find themselves, as I did, overwhelmed by everything the new digital cameras have to offer.

While not all variety of Powershots are discussed, there is enough information to figure out most models. Much better than the user's manual, this is a nice resourse for Powershot users!
