I first discovered this text when I was an undergraduate student in teaching back in the 60's. It was a required text for those seeking a degree in education. Although I had no children of my own at that time, I used it in my college class. I kept the text even though I taught at the secondary level and this text concerns children from birth to 10 years of age. Not long after I started teaching I had a child of my own. I constantly referred to this text as he and his little brother matured to the age of 10. I found it an invaluable tool in helping me to raise my sons. I liked it so much that even to this day, I continue to give it to my former students when they are expecting their first child. My sons have used the text with their children who are now grown up. Now my grandson is using it as he is starting to raise his son. It is a text that can give you peace as a parent. It helps you to understand the different phases your child is going through. As a result, you can approach the situations with a confidence that it is just a normal maturation process. The text even gives you suggestions on how to handle various situations. It's not a text that you just sit down and read right through. You keep it for a reference and research in it as your child reaches the various stages. It can also alert you if you need to be concerned about certain behaviors and when you might need to seek medical or professional assistance. I highly recommend this text to anyone with children from birth to ten years of age.
