Let me clarify this a bit. If I had to pick just ONE book to keep on each topic (shudder)- an anethema for a book lover, THIS would be the one for crocheting, hands down! Few other books have the ability to take you through the process in such a clear and concise manner, with interesting projects do do as you master each skill...and master them you will. It is a pleasure to read and follow, and you'll have several useful and attractive items to show for it. I find myself referring back to it, time and again - rather than the other books I picked up before and after finding it. Of course,I love them too. Many are filled with lovely eye candy as well as wonderful ideas and projects, but this one will give you the foundation to understand them, and truly get more out of them and your crocheting experience. There is nothing dumb about THIS book for 'Dummies'.

This is a self-learning book and it doesn't need to be read page to page and the book even says so. You can pick this book up and start right where your level of learning is. I've been crocheting for a couple of years before I bought this, I was tired of doing the same old stitches and wanted to learn more in depth about what some of these more advanced patterns meant and how to do them. It clarified a few things for me the moment I started reading it. I liked it so much I also purchased the Knitting for Dummies and Sewing also. All 3 highly recommended.

This booked was exactly what I wanted. It clearly explained the stitches and was easy to find information when I needed to go back and go over items again.

This is a very good reference to improve your crochet skills. There were several areas where I lacked the basic skills to complete a project and this book helped me fill in the gaps. This book is well written and concise, whether you want to read page by page or just check the places where you need assistance the information you need is there and findable.

Just what I needed to explain some stitches I had never encountered before.

I like the charts at the beginning of the book and the color photos in the center, but perhaps the information provided for left-handed people is what I like the most. A simple explanation at the begining of the book about holding the hook and illustrations throughout the book are helpful and informative.

Although I feel that this book will be invaluable down the line, I have decided to take a short Learn to Crochet course at the local Arts and Crafts store before I tackle the book.
