This volume serves to expand on a few concepts from the "Final Crisis" crossover event, containing three original issues penned by different writers. First up is a retelling of Libra's first encounter with the Justice League, as well as an explanation of how he came to work for Darkseid. This issue is ultimately a bit boring, retaining much of the silliness from its original 1970s telling. The second issue serves to expand on the Martian Manhunter's funeral, and largely does a wonderful job. We get to see each of the main heroes mourn J'onn in their own way, and then are treated to a surprise journey through the Martian's past. This issue alone is worth the purchase, especially if the reader is a Martian Manhunter fan. Finally, we get an issue focusing on the resistance movement as lead by Mr. Terrific. It's an interesting read, offering a street-level look at how people are coping with this crisis. Ultimately however, it feels a bit anticlimactic, and its exact placement within the timeline of the main series is confusing. Readers should pick up this volume if they want the absolute experience of Final Crisis, otherwise, it might not be totally worth the purchase.
