In response to the previous review, it does depend on the species - and the region. In the northeast US, species like bullfrogs and green frogs (Rana catesbeiana and R. clamitans respectively) can spend the winter as tadpoles. In other areas, they don't. I haven't read the book, but am considering it for my nephews because I study amphibians & reptiles for a living (including for my PhD). So...if this is the only factual concern you have, you can go back to enjoying the book.

I believe some of the information in the book is wrong. The book says that a tadpole remains a tadpole all summer and through the winter then becomes a frog in the spring. I believe that the tadpole hatches in the spring and is a frog by the end of summer. I have researched the frog's lifecycle and have found that the total lifecycle from egg to frog is 10-14 weeks, depending on the species. It's unfortunate if the information is wrong because my daughter loves the book and the pictures are great.
