Sir Patrik Cleary MacGruder is a man fighting his way back to his family and tries to obtain their forgiveness. He committed a serious breach of their trust and this long year they have thought him dead. Now as he serves his country under the guise of Dùbh Duer he is working to establish his reputation as an honest Scotsman and loyal supporter of his family. Patrik has found himself rescuing Christina Moffat from being attacked by the men he fights against every day. Now Patrik must alter his original mission to get her to safety. Little does Patrik know that Christina is also a woman with a mission and a secret identity both of which are set on doing him harm. As they travel through the country, they encounter more danger and narrow escapes but more about each other than expected. Neither wanted affection, or expected love but what they find while hiding in the shadows and under the cover of darkness is a tenderness and affection for each other they can barely understand. When Patrik is reunited with his past and Christina is forced to confess her sins will there be forgiveness or more penance? They have both made poor decisions but the love they feel for one another cannot be wrong because the person they have been hiding from the most is himself or herself. This book has adventure, romance, and intrigue, which play out in a flowing and colorful fashion. You take a trip through the highlands and experience the secrets that only those undercover realize and seeing it through a female character is refreshing. This series has been one where each book out does the last one without ever skipping a beat. You are encouraged to read the others but Ms. Cosby blends the stories so well you are never lost. Enjoy!

Every once in a while a story comes along that makes me run the full gamut of emotions. His Destiny by Diana Cosby is one of them. This amazing story is the fourth in the MacGruder series and yes I will say it, my favorite. It is a story of danger, deception and redemption all wound into one turbulent ride. We begin with the female protagonist being assaulted by English Knights. Sir Patrik Cleary comes upon the Knights attempting to rape the lady. He quickly dispatches all of them and vows to get Christina to safety. Christina Moffat is not all she says she is, we quickly find out she is really Emma Astyn, an infamous English mercenary who has been hired to befriend the Scot, Dubh Duer/Patrik Cleary and steal a missive from him to give to the English. Christina/Emma is not the only one with secrets, Patrik has plenty of his own. The fact that he is a MacGruder and fails to tell her is just one of the many. Their journey is fraught with mishap and danger but the silver lining is these two enigmatic personalities find they have feelings for one another. They fall into love kicking and fighting all the way, but it is love nonetheless. I was ecstatic to find all of the MacGruders together again attempting to overcome their issues. Once again a one of the love interests is placed in the deceased Grandmother's magic room where Christina hears and sees things that may or may not be there. Will the power of the stones prevail? You must read it to find out! I am a newer fan of author Diana Cosby's. I believe I discovered her series just when the third book His Conquest released and I quickly devoured all three in a weekend. I love the series and its characters are like family. Diana has the reader captivated from the first sentence to the final word. After reading His Destiny I want to go back and read the MacGruders all over again. ~KIMBERLY~

Traumatic experiences in childhood govern the psyche of both Emma Astyn and Sir Patrik Cleary MacGruder. Unloved, abused, and alone in late thirteenth century-England, Emma (aka Christine Moffat) has no thought of morals and ethics. Surviving by her wits and cunning, she has become a top mercenary spy for England. If the money is right, she is happy to do an assignment and is not particularly concerned about who might get hurt in the process-that is until she goes to Scotland to gain information and to expose the legendary Dubh Duer (Patrik). When he "saves" her from English knights, his gentle touch, quiet strength, and promised protection make her deceit taste bitter, but she knows she must do her job if she wants to live. Her journey, in this story, from being "a-not-too-likeable" heroine to being a heroine that I cried for, makes Hist Destiny an enthralling tale. Patrik's hatred for the English, after he watched them kill his family, drives him to do some despicable things. Some of these things alienates him from the MacGruders, his adoptive family whom he loves as if they were blood kin. If you've had the good fortune to read Diana Cosby's His Captive, His Woman and His Conquestyou'll remember Patrik and the intriguing, powerful MacGruders from these fascinating tales. Even though His Destiny is set in one of the most horrific times in the history of England and Scotland, English Emma's and Scottish Patrik's hearts and souls connect, refusing to be influenced by politics or ideologies. The unintended love that grows between these two very secretive people is a thing of beauty amongst a lot of ugliness. The love scenes touch the tender, caring spot in the heart that reaches far deeper than just the carnal pleasure, even though that part is breathtaking. Diana Cosby immerses the reader in the harsh, yet beautiful, almost mystical environment of Scotland-the haunting mist, the bright beauty on a sunny day, and the majestic castle of the MacGruders with its "grandmother's" room where peace and a bit of magic can be felt. She adds the touches of history to give a fine sense of time and place. But, more especially, she makes the characters so believable as they show their weaknesses, strengths, and what and whom they believe in enough to die for. His Destiny is a journey back in time that enchants with an awesome love story of two wounded hearts and souls that find redemption and love together. Good reading! Her uncanny ability to play any undercover role and her unmatched skill with a knife makes Emma Astyn the best English mercenary as she can charm anyone to do anything for her. Currently her assignment is to infiltrate the inner circle of rebel Dubh Duer in order to steal the writ the outlawed Scotsman is carrying to a supportive bishop. To conduct her mission successfully requires her to pose as innocent Scottish damsel Christina Moffat. However, while Christina prepares to charm Dubh, Emma is taken aback when she meets the man behind the legend Sir Patrick Cleary MacGruder. He distrusts her but wants her. She finds him a man of honor who gave up everything including his family who believe he is dead for his cause, the freedom of Scotland. Love and honor clash with selfless duty. The latest Diana Cosby "His" medieval romance is an exciting tale of late thirteenth century war torn Scotland in which key players from the previous historical thrillers (see His Woman and His Conquest) including real persona play major roles. The lead couple is a fascinating pairing as love intrudes on their respective mission. Although the ton of historical data at times slows down the story line, fans will enjoy His Destiny is hers.
