The last unwed MacLean of the five surviving siblings of the current generation, Alexander vows never to wed. He convinces the Duchess of Roxburge, the Lady Georgiana to invite Miss Caitlyn Hurst to her house party so that he can embarass Caitlyn. Lady Georgiana wishing to show Alexander how much she desires him, agrees. He met Caitlyn a few months earlier in London and she embarassed him. The consequences of their meeting and antics in London was that his brother and her sister rushed to remedy the situation but got mixed up in the mess forcing these siblings to marry. Alexander blames Caitlyn and has planned his revenge. When he doesn't embarass Caitlyn quick enough, the duchess implements her own cruel plan trying to force Alexander to focus on her rather than Caitlyn. With Caitlyn caught in the middle of this love triangle the result is an unleashing of the MacLean curse that some of guests may never forget.

This is my favorite story and cover of all time. Karen Hawkins is a genius that create a story in which you feel a part of the events occurring. This is the final story of the series. Alexander MacLean has sworn to get revenge against Caitlyn Hurst for embarrassing him and creating a scandal which caused his brother Hugh to get married. Alexander makes sure that Caitlyn attends a house party where he plans his revenge. Caitlyn and Alexander agree to 3 challenges based on an old tale in order to decide the final victor in their situation. This story has love, comedy and vengeance. I highly recommend this series.

I rediscovered this as I was organizing my books and set it aside to re-read it.  I found out a second time why I loved this series.  What first caught my attention was the relationship between Caitlin and  her sister Mary.  The storyline and writing makes it relationship that could be told anywhere.  The empathy that Mary feels for her sister is very believable. Caitlin is a young girl who let her temper get the best of her and in in doing so  almost ruined her in society.  This invitation is second chance for her to prove to her family that she has learned  how to control her infamous temper. But when she thinks back to the last time she was in society, she met Alexander McLean.  While playing what she thought were innocent games she played with his feelings and even now wished for his kisses. This is a great Summer read and a wonderful continuation of the series.
