On the world Ranadon there is no night as both suns shine brightly. The intervention of Belagren, High Priestess of the Shadowdancers, and the sacrifice of a child of royal blood, has banished the Age of Shadows from the skies. Belagren's position is unquestioned . . . until circumstances begin to tip political rivalries into a deadlier game altogether.

The story grabbed me from page one. The highly intelligent Dirk is ripped out of his comfortable and sheltered life and thrown into a generation-old turmoil. He finds himself capable of doing things he never thought he could do. One thing I like about this book is the 'realness' of the characters. These are not flat science fiction/fantasy characters. Jennifer Fallon has taken the time to get to know the characters herself. She 'shows' us their personalities instead of simply 'telling' us. Another thing I like about the LION OF SENET is that it is indeed character driven, instead of being steeped in technology or ritual. The story does not need such cheap devices. I'm adding Jennifer Fallon to my Favorites list.

As the suns never stop shining on Ranadon most people believe the propaganda that the High Priestess of the Church of the Sun, Belagren and her Shadowdancers cult followers have spouted. Belagren claims that the Goddess told her how to banish the Age of Shadows. Now Belagren is the most powerful force in the Kingdom of Senet and probably the planet though the Lion of Senet, the deeply religious Antonev, might think otherwise if he knew the truth............................... A volcano erupts ripping asunder the Kingdom of Dhevyn from the mainland Kingdom of Senet. At about the same time, a once exiled and now badly injured sailor floats ashore on the island of Elcast. His arrival reveals carefully hidden secrets that lead to Antonev journeying to Elcast to learn more of the truth. Civil war seems imminent as Belagren¿s contentions begin to prove false................................. This world seems real due to the genuine feel of the characters that make the action-packed fantasy so much fun to follow. Especially interesting is the pious Antonev, a firm believer in the Goddess to the point that he will kill indiscriminately while he viciously imposes his beliefs on others if that supports his religious zeal. Belagren is an interesting High Priestess who uses fabrications to gain followers, but readers will have to decide if that is for her to achieve and hold power or to convert zealots to the Goddess. Other players are as dichotomously intriguing as Jennifer Fallon provides a cerebral fantasy thriller whose theme of ¿what a web we weave when we first deceive¿ (modern politics?) will be followed in the next two months with the rest of ¿The Second Sons¿ trilogy........................ This is the most amazing series that follows a young genius through the pain of finding out everything he believes is a lie and the absolutely exquisite way he gets revenge. Intelligent, unpredictable and full of characters so real you expect them to get up and walk off the page.... A warning, though, Get hold of the entire series before you start reading or you'll go insane waiting for the next book.

Have read all 3 books, and they all are great! My favorite authors are Robert Jordan, John Marco, and Mercedes Lackey. If you like this book, you will like these authors also.

It took reading a few chapters before I started fully getting into the story, and once I did, it was very hard to put down! After I was halfway through the book, I took the advice of one of the other reviewers and bought the second and third book of this trilogy because there was no way I could wait patiently for the book to arrive if I ordered it after completing the first book. I haven't read a good fantasy series in a long time. After I finish with this trilogy, I hope to find something even half as good as this fantastic world that Fallon has created.

Amazingly written! Be prepared to cut off communication lines with the outside world because by the time you're done with Chapter 1, this book will be glued to your hands.
