I am an ocean person but after reading this can appreciate the Great Lakes so much more. The author combines the true story of his trip through the Great Lakes with the right amount of history and environmental information. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in any of these topics.

This is a great book!  Read it and share it, send it to your friends who grew up near the Great Lakes but moved  away (like me)! A great nautical adventure woven with natural history and current events, the story is engaging, the prose often poetic.  I read it at the beach, with a beer, but it would be good curled up by a fire with a glass of bourbon on a snowy night.  This author is a Michigan treasure.

I absolutely loved reading this book. I have grown up around Lake Michigan and I never knew all the history. This is a book that I will suggest to everyone I know. :) Especially those who live around any of the Great Lakes.

If you grew up near the Great Lakes, visited them, or are interested this is a book for you. This book is so well written, including lots of history and science written in a way that makes it easy to read. I was sad when it was done. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
