I gave this dictionary to my adult literacy student who was having trouble underatanding the adult dictionary and having a hard time with the very small print in the regular dictionary. We love this book! It contained easy to understand "phonics," simple definitions, and a sentence for each word to teach context. We especially like that the alphabet is shown on both outer edges of the open book - one side capitals, the other small case - color coded to help find words. I would recommend this book for children, young adults or anyone who is still learning to read or is in any way learning challenged. My only suggestion would be to take "for Children" out of the title - make it something like "Dictionary for Beginning to Intermediate Readers." Good going, MacMillan!!

My 7-year old daughter has this book in her classroom at school, and when I was shopping for a dictionary for her, she said she wanted this one. So we purchased it and she really loves it. It is user-friendly and suitable for any child.

I love this dictionary for students! The students really relate to the pictures, and the way the dictionary gives hints about homonyms and other common errors is wonderful.

I looked at lots of children's dictionaries before I settled on this one. It seemed to be written at the appropriate level for my children (grades 3 and 5), but it's not too juvenile. They could use it like an adult dictionary, but the illustrations and the use of color are entirely appropriate for children.

This is the best dictionary I ever bought for my children. It is visually stimulating as it provides pictures and illustrations for some of the words and each alphabet tab is color coded to help you find the letter you are looking for. Also, after the definition of each word is a sentence. This helps my child understand how the word is used. I would highly recommend this dictionary as the first dictionary for children who are school-age. Two thumbs up!
