This is a great book for families and friends of those suffering from brain injuries. It's helpful in its review of the different ways the body, mind, and emotional state can be affected by the injury. It really helped us to navigate the medical world as laypeople and to figure out what questions we should be asking of the professionals. We were able too be better advocates for my dad.

As a caregiver it is exceedingly difficult to find resources on acquired TBI'S. This book is beyond value to my mom ( who suffered a catostropic brain injury from an innocent fall) and to me as her sole caregiver. If you found this book in a similar quest as mine, count yourself as blessed. It took me a year. A year of precious time wasted. Buy this book now, dont let another day pass by.

Our son died a little under two years ago, tragically, horribly.  Had we or the "professionals" in which we entrusted our son's fate had Dr. Cassidy's book and the knowledge within it, it's likely our son would have survived.  Today we too often fall prey to the fixed ideas of experts who blithely prescribe treatments and nostrums, not based on what they observe but on their own lazy and arrogant "know-best."  Dr. Cassidy's revelatory work, in simple and passionate language, details the symptoms, causes and best treatments for the "silent epidemic," Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  Our son's symptoms were taken as "drug-related psychosis" (although he never once tested positive for drugs).  He went from jail to jail to rehab to jail again during the last holocaust year of an otherwise creative and exuberant life.  His downturn began not with drugs or a sudden shift in the chemicals in the brain, but with a head injury sustained in a motorcycle accident shortly before his behavior shifted 180 degrees.  It's too late to save our son, but it's not too late to save yours or your daughter's, spouse's, or loved one's.  "Mindstorms" will save lives.  And beyond life-saving, it is also life-giving, to those TBI survivors and care-givers who had little hope before.

John Cassidy has put TBI, a difficult, scary and confusing injury into a wonderfully simplified, informative and easy to understand book. Anyone dealing with a TBI or dealing with someone who has a TBI should get Mindstorms.
