Mr. Lucky

4.1 12
by Chris Isaak

Chris Isaak, the epitome of modern musical cool, is back with Mr. Lucky, his first non-holiday studio album since 2002. Filled with his distinctive, sweetly moody, slyly sexy retro-pop, Mr. Lucky debuts alongside the television premiere of “The Chris Isaak Hour,” a weekly music-and-talk series on A&E’s Bio Channel. If you were ever a Chris Issak or Roy Orbison fan youll absolutely love this CD!!

While Isaak's Orbison-like vocals are rich, the lyrics were less than inspired. Song after song about being abandoned by a lying lover make for a pretty long stretch of navel gazing--without a hint of the irony that a talented lyricist like Lyle Lovett can spin into an interesting tale. Here, the material sounds like self-absorbtion without the relief of self-reflection. Buy one or two of these songs on iTunes and skip the full CD.

What more can I say? The coolest crooner from San Francisco is back... with all new melodies to chronicle heartache, heartbreak and loss. A one of a kind singer with a one of a kind sound...

If you are a Chris Isaak fan you will not be disappointed -- waited a long time for a album from him -- still has it in my book.
