Overview

Our homeless Tabby kitten not only finds a safe place when he is given to Mrs. Bentley, he finds a home where he is loved and cared for by the Bentley family. Patrick becomes the center of attention as he grows into a mature cat. He is rewarded for his hunting skills, played with by the neighborhood children and always taken care of by Mrs. Bentley.

After Patrick is wounded in a cat fight, Mrs. Bentley gently nurses him back to health and cooks for him that special meal that he dreams of eating, mackerel.

Written by Sonia Simmons and illustrated by Diamond BeAnce Bobbett who is nine years old, Mrs Bentley's Cat is a story and a guide about how to care for your pet cat.

Mrs. Bentley's Cat is enjoyable reading for boys and girls ages eight through twelve.

About the Author

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was my first introduction to poetry. I have been writing poetry ever since. I am a poet who, in the past four years, has begun to write short stories that include fictional tales about cats and dogs. Mrs. Bentley's Cat is my latest completed work.

I am a native Washingtonian, living in Killeen, Texas. Although I did not complete college, I attended Montgomery college in Takoma, Maryland and the USDA Graduate School in Washington, D.C. I am the mother of three and grandmother of four.

Former President William Clinton sent me a thank you letter and A Day of Mourning Proclamation for my poem, A Few Days On This Earth. This poem is given to parents of stillborn children throughout the country by bereavement organizations.

Diamond BeAnce Bobbett and I met when she was nine years of age and we have become collaborators on two books. Our first work was The Back Yard Encounter: Jacks, Mrs. Rogers and the Skunk and Mrs. Bentley's Cat is our current illustrated book. Diamond is a gifted artist who enjoys illustrating, dancing and music. She has illustrated three books at this time.
