I've been a part of the Barnes and Noble Nook family since the very first Nook was released. I started out with the Nook WiFi. Within a year and a half, I upgraded to the NookColor. The Nook Color was a new reading experience. And honestly, after the Nook Tablet came out, I was a little disappointed. It wasn't the best experience.

Now I am on the Nook HD. This tablet is the best for the money I spent. Barnes and Noble has made a mistake in it's marketing, though. They never showcased the Bluetooth connectivity! That is the best fataure, and I had no idea that the 7inch Tablet had it. Imagine my surprise when I was able to connect my bluetooth keyboard to the device with ease!

I've been able to chat with my friends using great Apps, and update Evernote anywhere I go easily, and quickly. This is the best product Barnes and Noble has come out with. It's an amazing little tablet for the money. Thank you, Barnes and Noble, for making such a quality product. Your loyal Barnes and Noble customer, Heather

Having read half of ONE book (Nate Silver's "The Signal and the Noise"), I've experienced numerous problems.

Some are B&N website problems, I assume, not specifically Nook problems, but the competition has better solutions across the board.

a) The reader has refused 3 times to page forward, and once it refused to page forward OR back.
Paging is the SIMPLEST thing a reader should do, and it's disgraceful for Nook to fail at it.
b) The best font size I can find (third from right) is too small to avoid eye-strain.
c) The next size up is FAR TOO BIG.
d) Most of the font size choices are useless to any imaginable human being.
e) This text box on the website doesn't even work properly … since it doesn't allow carriage returns half the time.
f) Shopping is difficult because I can't focus a search on, for instance, apps until AFTER I've entered the search.
That means the website has to exhaustively search for "image comics" across all product types, THEN I can filter it to apps, and THEN I find that there are none.
That's backwards for me as a user, and backwards for B&N in terms of efficient searches.
g) When looking at "Nook recommendations", I can't mark those I already own or have no interest in.
Hence, it will take a long time for B&N to determine what I like … and that's very important.

Why didn't I see reviews like this before I bought the product, I wonder?
Will this review see the light of day?

Love my Nook Hd but am ready and waiting for an update. I've come across a ton of glitches that I never experienced on the NC. And why is Plants vs. Zombies listed as a Nook HD app but doesn't actually work on the Nook Hd or HD plus? If the app isn't ready, you should not be advertising it or selling it :(

I had the Nook tablet for a little over a year before it died and decided to replace it with the HD tablet.
I bought it and left on vacation with it the next morning. The picture was great and it only took a little bit to get used to the new home page layout. Unfortunately I couldn't get the cover off the SD slot. When I was finally able to wiggle it out only one side was attached. Hmm, kind of a dumb design I figured, but I'll work with it. When I returned from vacation I went back to the store I had bought it from and looked at the SD cover on the demo model. Upon discovering that both sides of the cover are supposed to be attached, I assumed the cover was broken and that was why it had been so hard to open. The staff at the store cheerfully exchanged my broken Nook. The door on the new one wasn't much better and now it too is broken. Everything else has been wonderful. If you are planning to access the SD card a lot you may not want this tablet.

I have owned my Nook HD for about a week now. I am still very unsure on how to rate it. It has a nice crisp display and I love the Barns and Noble book store.
However, this is NOT a tablet. It is very limited on what it can do, with very limited apps availabe. There isn't even a facebook app. you have to buy an app called friendcaster to link to your facebook account. Wifi drains the battery very quickly. As a reader this is a great device. If you are looking for something more then just a reader then buy a real tablet. I am still trying to decide if I want to keep it or return it.

I have used the HD for six months now and have enjoyed it as a reader. Every time I turn on the WiFi the battery drains, and even more dramatically since Google was added. Therefore, I have turned off all Google apps and WiFi and no longer use it to access e-mail. For any problems, the help line, customer service, and the help desk in the store are all useless. I have had to figure out every single problem by myself. Had I known how poor the tablet features worked I never would have put this on my wish list. I would have ordered a reader only. I also find the Free Friday feature nearly useless with mainly junk offered. Not one response has ever been received from Customer Service. I can't say how many times I have signed up for the daily deal e-mail and NEVER received notification. Guess what: Amazon sends me notification of daily deals and I never even had to ask for it. If I could go back six months. This would never have been on my wish list. I give it a three stars for the e-reader function only. Barnes and Noble, how do you expect to stay in business?

So when Barnes & Noble goes out of business, what will you guys all do with your Nooks? I know Microsoft invested $300 million into the Nook brand, but will that be enough to keep B&N alive if they keep losing money?

I just wish I could use it more.

I loved my original nook, until it eventually started getting dead pixels that made reading distracting. Having read iffy reviews of light issues on the simple touch with glowlight, which would have been my first choice, I decided to give tablet reading a try with the Nook HD. Not just for reading, granted, as with anyone who promises they bought a tablet "for reading." There are too many distracting apps and games for that.

I've tried both older and newer versions of the Kindle and Kindle fire tablet borrowed from friends and relatives, and have always found Amazon to be severely challenged in creating a decent user interface. The Kindle menus are just ugly and feel like outdated technology fresh from the box. This nook didn't change my opinion on that. I LOVE its home screen setup, and, of course, I still love the reading experience. I received the nook HD as a gift at Christmas, and was, at that time, disappointed with the app selection available. They've since added access to the google play store, which eliminates that issue for me.   I unfortunately have to knock my review down a couple stars for two rather major, and related, complaints:  One, battery life. Obviously not going to be as good as an eInk reader. I wasn't expecting that. But it seems to barely make it through a day. I haven't timed it precisely, but 90% of the time I pull out my nook to read something on my lunch break, it has a dead battery, which makes it hard to feel very fond of it. That issue would be almost ok if it were easy to charge. I work someplace where generic universal chargers are readily available. But NO. They HAD to make it with a proprietary plug that matches nothing else. Thus replacements have to be purchased through Barnes & Noble, and there's no option to bum a friend's cell phone charger to charge your nook when it's dead. As a once terribly loyal "nook person," I can't even express how much this turns me off of nooks and B&N in general. Would a simple mini- or micro-usb have been so hard? To make the issue worse, the Nook is also picky about what it draws power from. I have these crazy newfangled power strips with built-in USB ports. And the nook cable won't work with them. It HAS to be plugged in with its own adaptor. I wish I could write a fuller review of my nook. I really wanted to love it, and, when it's working, I usually do. But it's dead right now.

I love the Nook HD however the battery life is poor.  To try to eke out longer battery life I keep the wi fi off and the power saver mode on.  Still I'm  having to charge it quite often.  As a reader it is very good.  I use my IPad for everything else.

I drug my heels purchasing this product because we have already purchased one first edition nook and two nook colors.
I was disappointed that B&N did not offer a trade or upgrade option for consistent users.
In the end this lil beauty won my heart over.

A few issues: a) horrible web browsing.
    b) slow to recognize touch when surfing web, even within extreme internet speed conditions.
    c) same app issues as other users. If all devices I use are blue tooth and I use the same account
recognized email, then then apps should not have to be re-purchased.
This alone makes this tablet less usable Over my iPad and iPhone.
I would like to add a few suggestions: fix these bugs and offer current owners compensation (anew tablet trade in)
if these bugs cannot be fixed via software updates or this will be our families last nook purchase.
*My daughter is asking for an upgrade so get it in gear B&N.
All in all I did give this lil beauty 3 stars; for the reader portion itself I would give 5.
I have arthritis and it is a dream to be able to hold it and read for hours with out any pain. Another plus is the size.
I can take it anywhere in my small coach purse and the nook color would not fit and was too heavy.
I finally have a device I can keep track of my aps. as they are booked.

Hope this helps. I do love B&N.

Maybe a 3-I'm not sure--right now I hate it. I absolutely loved my NOOK COLOR and recomended it to everyone since the day I had it I would still say buy it (if you could) over this HD tablet. It is absolutely great for reading--however as far as anything else--its awful. Only apps I can get are the nook ones and who wants them. I want my own--just like on the IPOD. Now that is great. Sort of sorry I didnt stay with Apple products but I mainly wanted to read and use email and for that stuff, this is fine. Was simple to get back and forth on Nook Color--not with this. I would return it except once your account is set up and everything is transferred the hardest thing to do is to return an electronic gadget such as this. It is lighter than my Color so I guess I'll keep it for my purse and to read and keep my COLOR bedside. Just means that the newest is not always the best.

I like it. This is my third Nook....first edition, tablet and now HD tablet. They screwed up the email with this one. The Tablet was easy to use, contacts easy to access, but with the HD tablet, Yahoo seems to be a problem. Can't access my contacts from the email page, nor can I send to multiple contacts using the contacts app.
Told customer service about this and was assured that it would be taken care of with the next upgrade. It hasn't been.

I was disappointed to find out the Nook HD uses a proprietary charging plug for this device, and the micro USB device used for my original Nook will not work. Also the power switch is on the upper left side of the device and is blocked when the device is inserted in a case. The Nook HD+ power switch is located on the upper right side, which is accessible when it is in a case. I really don't like the carousel on the home page, and would prefer icons instead. I do like the increased visibility for reading over my old Nook...
