I absolutely adore my Nook HD+!

The Nook HD+ is an e-reader on steroids, packed with features like a stellar HD screen (beats out the Google Nexus, iPad Mini, Kindle Fire HD, etc), apps (10000 and counting!), expandable memory, HDMI compatible, 10 hour battery life, and it's one of the lightest 'tablets' on the market. But one thing needs to be clear, the Nook HD+ is an e-reader FIRST, tablet second, and it behaves that way. If you are purchasing this device expecting a full-featured Android OS, look elsewhere.

Lack of apps seems to be a major concern with some buyers, which isn't something that I've been bothered with since I'm not a huge app user. Angry Birds, Evernote, Hulu Plus and Open Explorer are my apps of choice, but it all depends on what YOU plan on using this device for. I can access my e-mail easily and the stock web browser does its job. Don't like the browser? No problem, hit up the app store and get the Dolphin browser or any of the countless other options available.

The Nook HD+ really shines for a few reasons. It's one of the only devices in its class with expandable memory, and due to its 'Retina-like' display, the screen is really super-sharp and the colors pop, perfect for, well, reading. Another reason is customer service. Because Barnes & Noble has actual brick and mortar stores, if you are having problems with your Nook, you don't have to call a customer service number, you can bring your device to your local Barnes & Noble and a Nook specialist is always on staff to help. Also, since it's one of the lightest devices in its class, it's easy and comfortable to hold with one hand. And while some people may say the build (specifically the back of the device) is 'plastic-ey', I find it stylish, plus it keeps it light and separates it from the endless black rectangles that now flood the tablet market.

I'm very happy with my Nook HD+, and those little extra features like being able to take it into a B&N store and be able to read ANY book for free on the device (even items that they don't actually have in stock) is a cool plus. I recommend it for any avid reader who wants a bit of color!

I bought a Nook HD+ today and might end up returning it tomorrow. The screen is great. No doubt about it. But everything else is not so hot. It's not user-friendly and there aren't many apps available. For me, the worst thing is that you can't create folders to organize your stuff. Well, you can CREATE them, but the Nook doesn't DISPLAY them. This has been problem for a while and they still haven't fixed it. ?!?!?!?!?

They also advertise the HD+ as being GREAT FOR FAMILIES because you can set up different users. So your spouse or kids can have their own accounts and their own books. I thought this would help because of the no-folders thing. Well, my daughter wanted an original Nancy Drew book (#8 in the series). Fine. But it didn't appear search results when we searched in her account. But it DID show up when we searched on my account. ?? Someone flagged most of the older Nancy Drew books as being adult content. Okay, fine. I removed the "kids only" restriction in her account. It STILL didn't appear in the search results. I called the store. They told me to just make an adult account for her. Err. This kind of defeats the purpose of setting up an account that will suggest the kinds of books she likes to read. Not to mention if she's an "adult" they can collect all her information aggressively.

And when I read the ten-page privacy policy, it said that they collect information on kids under 13, "so you should tell your kids not to write anything personally identifiable if they're using our online apps." Eek!

And don't even get me started on some ebooks being more expensive than actual books.

HD+ is a solid 4 star improvement over previous NC and NT. The lack of quality apps is the only reason this doesn't get a 5-star. I had NC and NT before, this is a faster, sharper screen, more responsive, and overall, just a better tablet for most daily email and web usage...plus some reading and movies. I got the 32GB model, BN got it right this time without locking down internal storage.

There are some functions that are not there such as:
Adding items to a shelf from a search
Unable to restrict kids while browsing (the other kids setup is great)
Flash, you can ge it to work, but it is not easy (on nook hd+)
Now the good stuff: Best screen on the market, very fast, full email, apps are getting better, the reading is superior.

I have used my Nook HD+ (32gb version is what I purchased) for a minimum of 1 - 1.5 hours every single day since I bought it a couple weeks ago. Naturally we all have opinions and that's what reviews are - one person's opinion of something (and don't fool yourself even "professional" critics / media sources is still really just one group's opinion we just assume its a well educated opinion). The quality of the device is pretty solid it doesn't feel like cheap made junk in my hands. Its light weight, relatively thin as these types of devices go - the screen is incredible. I honestly grin a bit every review I read that compares any table device to "almost retina display" quality...I know at least a dozen people that have Ipads and Iphones, some with the latest generations of each device. I honestly think the quality of the retina display being so far ahead of all other devices is *incredibly* over-exaggerated. The Nook HD+ with the right tweaking of brightness/contrast levels EASILY matches first and 2nd generation Ipads...EASILY. And to not lie I see slightly more vibrant colors on my friend's "retina" display Ipad than my Nook HD+ but when I say its minor, I'm dead serious the screen is that good on the Nook HD+. If the Apple Retina display is the "10" standard right now, I'd say with confidence the Nook HD+ is a solid "9"....for a couple hundred bucks less. Battery life is good, I won't BS and say its flipping fantastic -- its good..but I'm very strict on battery life. My nook can stay about 85% charge on standby for a couple days in a row, I tested it the first night I bought it by playing movies one after another on Netflix without ever charging it. From a full charge my tested showed about 8.5 hours before I finally gave in and charged it (it was at about 10% left at that point). If you just read - I can easily buy the claim of 12 hours of life on one full charge. To address some comments from other reviewers...pick the device for your needs. Every person that directly compares an e-reader to a full purpose table like an Ipad I want to laugh in their face. Make no mistakes the primary function of the Nook HD+ is an ereader. Yes it plays movies on Netflix beautifully, yes I've had no problems web browsing on it, yes I've played some games on it and had no issues. The device has handled this well for me, but all this said the Nook HD+ is an E-reader first! I bought one because I love to read and my first nook was the original one. I also am a huge Netflix fan and thought what a great time to get one device for my reading AND Netflix needs. This device fills the role stunningly well.

A bit of a pain to set up with side-loaded material. I loaded pictures onto an SD card but the device would only let me look at them until I loaded them directly onto the nook. It also prefers horizontal pictures this time around versus vertical pictures if you wish to use them as your wallpaper. It doesn't recognize all of my music either...it'll play, but it says 'unknown artist'. Side-loaded movies run great. Good sound. I really wish they'd stop putting the speaker where it gets covered by the case which muffles it. It feels lighter than the nook tablets. BEWARE, not all of your old apps will work on the new HD/HD+ so that means you have to re-buy these apps unless BN decides to concede and give people free access to the apps they already own. What's more there is a difference between the HD and the HD+ apps as well, don't buy the wrong ones and if you decided to get multiple devices for your home, it may be beneficial to buy all the same type so your apps work together! So far so good on its response times when switching between applications and general use. I wish there were more case options, but I'm sure it'll come. I also talked to a gentlemen in a store near me and he said that they were coming out with blue tooth accessories (not sure if its true or not, but that is what the 'guru' behind the counter said). Another side note is the overall setup of the device compared to the others....a bit of a learning curve and I was frustrated that I have to tap a little (smaller than a pencil eraser) in the top corner to get to my settings. I'm rambling :) I'll add another review after I use it more, but these are my first impressions and use of the NOOK HD+ 32GB

This tablet is absolutely amazing. I've purchased mine on pre-order last October and have been completely addicted to it ever since. I love the crisp and clear display that does such sweet justice to my favorite magazines and recently published books that take advantage of the hi definition screen. The reading experience is simply unmatched- I have an iPad for work and when reading on it I find my dyslexia getting in the way of my reading experience. The text and the background color just doesn't mix, and no matter what combination I try, it simply doesn't seem to make a difference. The HD+, on the other hand, is easy to read and my eyes don't get buggy after reading for several hours. Google Play is something I've been wanting on NOOK since Day One. B&N was stubborn for the longest time with it, and because of that, they've lost out on major market share. Now that problem is a thing of the past as the HD+ screams with power and response, making the use of it's incredibly powerful graphics chip and it's nice speakers. The Kindle Fire doesn't have Google Play (A MAJOR bonus in Barnes & Noble's favor!) and now there are more apps available than ever before. So now I use both my HD+ and my iPad interchangeably, and I don't regret doing that.

The only downsides to the HD+ are the battery (okay, at best) and it's lack of 4G LTE availability. I HATE being stuck to wifi networks in order to use the Internet (Most public networks are incredibly slow and difficult to use), and I heavily dislike having to charge the HD+ every single day. The iPad can go several days without a recharge, and while this is why the HD+ is so affordable, I think I'd have preferred to have paid an extra $100 or so for these features than to pay less and miss out.

Really, you owe it to yourself to buy one of these. It's an AMAZING device that is such a joy to use. It isn't perfect, and I think Barnes and Noble has learned their lesson with Google Play and audience demand, and now it's more perfect to use than ever before. The battery and 4G LTE aside, there's nothing to complain about with this tablet. I proudly show it off to people, lol.

After owning 4 different Nook models, I finally switched to a 10" android tablet because of the Nook's lack of apps. When I heard that a recent software upgrade had opened up the entire Google Play Store, I ran out and bought the 16 gb Nook HD+ and I absolutely love it! It is effortless to setup and the reading experience is even better than it was on the Nook Tablet. Got it at my local Barnes & Noble store for a steal ($149), and will expand it's capacity with an SD card. To make things even better! Cases were also on sale ($25).
Magazines and newspapers look great on the 9" screen and the speaker sounds fine. I've synched with most of my android based apps and everything works well.
I highly recommend the Nook HD+.

Great with Bluetooth keyboard interface, nice to have options to have multiple accounts, nice that you can turn google updates on an off. The only reason I give 4 stars is that the battery doesn't last as long as the Nook color tablet. You have to turn auto-rotate feature off in order to preserve battery. It still does pretty decent. I can leave it on for two days straight before I need to charge it, unless I use it a lot. The tablet I could read and use for 3-4 days before needing a charge. Turning auto-updates, mail synching, and auto-rotate seems to lessen this problem. Battery charge does take a little longer, but I just charge at night when I'm sleeping, so I haven't really had an issue.

The display rivals the ipad. We have watched our ultraviolet movies and streamed from Cinemanow on it and the display is beautiful. We did not have a wifi problem with it. This gets good wifi signal even when xbox is having trouble (We blame Comcast anyway).

This is much more user friendly than Kindle in my opinion.

The only thing I don't like about the entire Nook line is that B&N refuses to allow custom filtering for families who may want to have access to things like novels containing...zombies for example...but not access to explicit content. There is a lot of it and B&N doesn't make it easy for Teen/Adult integrity.

I recently bought my wife a Nook HD+ and she loves it.  It's generally a big improvement over her old Nook Tablet, but she reads books on the Tablet because it is lighter.

I have and old iPad 2 and prefer many of its characteristics over the HD+.  However, if I were buying a tablet for myself today, it would be difficult to justify paying twice as much for a new iPad 2 and even more for the latest version of the iPad.

Unless your ego and vanity won't let you buy anything except an iPad, the Nook HD+ is definitely a better value for your money.

Upgraded to the Nook HD+ last week when my Nook Tablet finally gave out. I have had the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Tablet. B&N was very helpful, they gave me a full credit for my Tablet because it was still under warranty. Applied the credit to the Nook HD+.
I picked the HD+ because of the huge screen. The screen is large and really high quality. So far the screen is great when watching videos and playing games. The touch screen responds much faster than my Nook Tablet. It also charges much faster, and retains the charge much longer. I only have to charge it every other night, rather than every night. Although I pretty much only use my Nook to read, the other features were as expected. Overall an improvement over my Nook Tablet.
The Nook HD+ took some getting used to. Some sections are not very user friendly, but after playing around on it for a few hours, I quickly got the hang of it.
A little disappointed by the selection of Apps in the App Store, but having already had a Nook Tablet, I was already used to that. I use my Nook for reading mostly, so the smaller selection of apps isn't that big of a deal to me.
I was also disappointed with the variety of cases out there for the Nook HD+. I had a sleeve for my Nook Tablet, but there aren't any for the Nook HD+. I wanted a light weight case that would just protect the Nook from scratches while in my purse or backpack. Ended up buying a generic tablet case from Vera Bradley.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my Nook HD+.

I got the NOOK HD+ 2 weeks ago, and it is my first tablet/e-reader. I am very impressed overall. The display is amazing, my BIKE magazine looks better than the print version. It does have its limitations, one, it would be great to have a camera. two, it doesn't have the widest selection of apps and movies, but i expect that will improve over time. three, i wish i could buy music on the nook store. In All other respects, the nook HD+ is a solid performer. Lightweight, good speed. The screen keyboard is easy to type with, which was a big concern for me.

I upgraded to the HD+ from the Tablet and really like the larger, sharper screen. I would give this product a 5 star rating, BUT....I quickly discovered that you can not sync your email contacts or calander if you are using a typical home use POP3 email server. The contacts and calander on the HD+ can only be synced with a commercial Windows Exchange Server type email account, typically used in Windows Office, Outlook type email programs. So, if you have a standard Windows 7, "Live Mail" account, you will have to enter every contact manually and you can not enter "events" into the calander app. Very disappointing that whoever designed this forgot about us home type users.

I started out with a Nook Tablet and it made a great e-reader especially for magazines and books with great photographs, but as a tablet it sucked.  They nook app store was horrible and I was able to install amazon app store before they had a software update that blocked it, not to mention the small screen.  This Nook has made up for the short-comings of the Nook tablet.  The screen is much bigger and even more vivid.  After you install the software update you have access to Google Play.  The only thing it's short on is page response.  While reading books and you swipe to turn the page, it often hesitates before the page turns, which is very annoying.  I recommend buying this tablet with a blue tooth keyboard.  I bought one on amazon that has a case and a blue tooth keyboard.

I'm thrilled with my new Nook HD+ and the fact that it has a more open OS so I can use DropBox, Audible, Pandora, and lots of other Android apps that I enjoy.  It's got a bigger, even clearer screen than my Nook color tablet.  I love the new interface and the fact that I can use Google maps and get the weather right away.  It makes the tablet so much more useful being able to switch material between my laptop, phone and now the Nook, without having to sideload content.  Thanks, B&N.  Good job!

I just recently purchased the Nook HD+. I have a NOOK Color, but its days are numbered, as I've had it for a few years, so I knew it was time to purchase a new reader. I wasn't in the market for a tablet, as I mainly wanted something that would have good graphics and allow me to read many books. I've never been a Kindle fan, so I stuck with the Nook. The setup was a breeze, as it walks you through everything on the screen. I was able to get my screen protector on with no problems. The trick to this is doing it in the bathroom after you've let the hot water run for a few minutes so the steam keeps the dust and lint away. Then peel only the top portion of the protector and place on the top of the screen and pull down the protector while peeling the rest of the film off. No lint, perfect alignment. Was a breeze. However, because I had to exchange my first NOOK HD+ for another one due to the border of the unit coming "unglued" from the screen, I rated this product with 4 stars. The edge was lifting off, and seeing as I had not owned this product for more than 2 days, I immediately brought it back to the store and had them exchange it. The one I have now looks better. I'm hoping to get much use out of this device and can't wait to use it.
