Good system, but caution for those that transfer from 1st Gen Nook

I just received this as a gift. I already had the 1st Gen Nook with tons of content already on it. The transferring of content from one device to other is complicated and will cause hours of work to transfer and put content back into the proper places.

    Perfect for deployments

I bought one of these before my deployment to Iraq, and I have to say, its the perfect way to read books. It fits perfectly into a cargo pocket and the extended battery life means that you can go a long time without a charge, very useful on long patrols.

    LOVE my NOOK

I take this with me everywhere. It is so light, I carry it in my purse and it doesn't weigh it down. I find that I read more with this device, because I have it with me all the time. It is so easy to use. I bought one for my mom too, and she loves it.

    AWESOME!!

I have used the Amazon Kindle, the origional Nook, and the Nook Simple Touch. The Nook Simple Touch is the best. Very long battery life, very user friendly. I find it very intuitive especially since I have an iphone and love touch technology!

this is the e-reader for a serious reader

I still love reading quality hardbacks BUT there are some books not available in hardbacks and not really worthwhile to invest money in a paperback version. I love penguins but never buy them any more; the print is just too small for me to enjoy it. Quality paperbacks are better but they are not a good investment. So for reading magazines, contemporary books or newspapers the NOOK is just perfect. Also I have no interest in seeing movies or videos on my NOOK. I can see those on my laptop or TV. The NOOK simple touch is the best straightfoward reader.

    Great!

I am still getting accustomed to my new NOOK simple touch, after my old kindle bought the dust. I had some problem using the sign-in correctly but one phone call did the trick. It is faster, brighter, more compact, more comfortable, choice of six typefaces, still finding new things to like....

    Purchasing books

If you don't have a credit card, don't bother. Gift card requires credit card to purchase. Credit card required to purchase free items.

Best buy I have made in years, Highly recommended....

I have been putting this off for a long time, I finally went into B&N and the sales lady was wonderful, she did not pressure me AT ALL. She showed me the NOOK and left me to play with the sales copy. After asking a few questions I was sold. After my purchase she sent me over to customer service and my nook was set up for me by store personnel before I left the store. I was uncomfortable about sitting in the store and hooking up to wi-fi so I went to my car and I was able to buy my first book, then and there. I highly recommend this to anyone that loves to read.

    Love my Simple Touch!

So user friendly, so lightweight I just love it. I had the original Nook and switched to the Simple Touch when it came out. 100% happy with this product.

    Incredibly Addicting!!

It took me a while to finally cave and get the Nook, but I am SO GLAD I did. It's even easier on my eyes than an actual book. I am highly impressed. It actually re-launched my love for reading and being able to take the light device anywhere I go is awesome. I took it with me to a Dr.'s appointment the other day and it created a whole conversation in the office. I'm very pleased!!

Perfect way to carry your books around.

I commute back and forth from work by means of public transportation and up until I purchased my Nook, I was lugging around whatever reading material that I needed on my daily travels. Since I tend to gravitate towards large, wordy tomes, I was getting quite the workout. :) Now, I just carry along the Nook and I can even switch back and forth between my books without having to carry the extra volume along with me. It has turned into by best investment this year!

Really Great Product- everything I hoped!

This nook is really great. It's small enough to take almost anywhere, unlike other books that I read. (i.e. the 800 page ones) It's really simple to use, and it feels great in your hands. I thought I would miss flipping the pages, but I don't. Also, it's not like your looking at a computer screen, it looks just like the pages of a real book-- one of my favorite parts! Another great thing about it is that it has a long battery life and charges relatively fast. I read mostly in bed, and I like reading on my side. Instead of trying to hold up my book and read it, I decided to get a cover, and now I can prop it up on my bed and I only have to use my hands to turn the pages. Really great buy, and I would recommend it to anyone that loves to read.

    Love It!!!

I enjoy being able to carry all my books with me no matter where I go. It can fit easily in my purse. I miss having that daily that I had on my 1st gen Nook, but if that is a sacrifice for longer battery life I understand.

Easy to use, easy to read

Easy to use, easy to read. Need some firmware enhancements such as zoom and landscape mode for the pdf docs not based on text. Overall satisfaction: very high.

    All-around Disappointment

At first, I loved it. Conceptually, the Nook was just what I needed: lightweight, easy to read, uncomplicated. But it was a short-lived romance. Within weeks the screen became unresponsive or, even worse, would operate on its own, flitting between screens, jumping ahead or back without even a look from me much less a touch. I've been stuck on the same book for months--not because I'm a particularly slow reader but because the Nook won't close it or open anything else. (It's a good book, but a girl has to move on.) The customer service reps were condescending and unhelpful. I love the "ma'am-you-have-to-plug-in-the-charger" guidance I received (really?). So, my advice to potential buyers: if you are going to buy it, which I'd suggest you don't, buy it at a store, record the name of the person who sells it to you, stand next to the person while he or she starts the Nook and ensures that it operates. Go back to the store the second it stops doing what you want, which won't be long. Stand next to the person who sold it and stay there until he or she gets your Nook working again, which may take a good chunk of your day. Thank the person politely for at least trying because you know he or she is working to get through school and needs the job and is not the creator of the Nook. Then go back home and order your Kindle.

BEWARE: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH FIOS ROUTER AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Like another reviewer, I purchased a nook which stopped accessing my home wireless within three days after installing the update to 1.1.0. Customer service told me to return it and I received a replacement which had the same problem within 24 hours, and so I was advised to return that one, too. So, like the other reviewer, I then received a "certified pre-owned" nook to replace the previous brand-new defective ones (neither of which lasted more than three days). BN refused to refund my money and instead stuck me with a device that is not compatible with my Verizon Fios router and is therefore worthless to me. I intend to sell it and purchase a Kindle 3G (3G is FREE - NO monthly subscription!) which will not depend on wireless at all. Bye-bye, BN! You've lost a long-time customer!
