2016 Reprint of 1957 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Bannon is one of only a very few women who have written about being lesbian during the 1950s and 1960s. Her novels, all issued as paperbacks with ongoing characters, reflect the repressiveness of those decades and reveal how much needed to change.

This book, if it wasn't written by a man..a straight man..should have been. One of the main "lesbian" characters fell in love with a man....and asked her girlfriend if she couldn't have them both. Then chose the man over her "girlfriend." This is Not a book about lesbians.

'Odd Girl Out' kept me turning the pages to read more. It's not incredibly juicy, but it has that 'I'm in love and confused but trying to figure things out' air to it. The ending isn't what I hoped for, but it does leave the novel open for the other books in the Beebo Brinker series. Honestly, even though this novel was published in the 1950's, you couldn't tell the fifties from the millennium in Ann Bannon's style of writing. Great read.

This is one of the best lesbian books I've ever read. It has such a good story that any lesbian I'm sure can relate to. I couldn't put the book down, I read it all in one sitting and was tempted to immediately pick it up again. You NEED this book!
