For anyone intersted in U.S. history of the 19th century, this is a must read. No other author on the Civil War has Grant's perspective. Told in his own words, it not only gives the facts, but insight into the man who saved the country. A bestseller at the time it was written it is regarded has on of the best historical memoirs ever written.
