If you believe that schools and classrooms should be laboratories for a more just society, then you should read this book. I have been using ROC as a primary 'text' for several semesters in an introduction to teaching class. The three sections of essays by classroom teachers focus on rethinking our assumptions about teaching, about classrooms, and on how to go beyond the classroom in the quest for equity and social justice. There is also a collection of teaching ideas, as well as an extensive annotated resource guide. This is a book that my future teachers keep.
