With an emotional trickle of memories, the classic TV special notwithstanding, this friendly book will wiggle into every holiday crevice you possess. All the endearing, enduring characters are here, and even without the familiar music (imprinted by now in your yuletime DNA), the story still stands. Dentistry, antlered mammals, and gruff gold miners will never intersect in such a mutually satisfying way again. Bravo!
The TV special that this book was based on was one of my favorite Christmas shows as a kid many years ago. The book pulls out pieces of the TV show to tell the story. The book is straightforward and is an easy read, but my six year old daughter just loved it. We probably read it more than 10 times this past Christmas week. I was reading the book to her out loud at a small airport, and 4 other children came up to us to listen and look at the pictures. The kids were just so mesmerized with Rudolph's story; it was a magical moment that I will always remember.
