I have used this with great success as a spine for a writing intensive course in ancient history. The book presents the information in an interesting and concise manner, giving the student a broad overview of the period and culture. The photos and other graphics were helpful and visually appealing. It was exactly what we wanted!

I cannot write a review or give a proper rating right now because I have not finished the book. What I have read is very interesting, but it is not a book to skim. One era at a time is enough.

I'm an avid reader, but my knowledge of older history is lacking so I got this as kind of a "History for Dummies" overview. And the older history sections are good. Brief and to the point. But the author in more recent history, gives a VERY, VERY biased "version." This is just a further example that you need to always think for yourself when reading "non-fiction." I wouldn't recomend this book to anyone looking for a history over-view. If you're looking for a good laugh, and can think for yourself -- Dig in!
