The Social Skills Picture Book: For High School and Beyond

The Social Skills Picture Book: For High School and Beyond

4.5 2
by Jed Baker PH.D.

Winner of an iParenting Media Award, this picture book appeals to the visual strengths of students on the autism spectrum, with color photos of students demonstrating various social skills in the correct (and sometimes incorrect) way. The skills depicted are meant to be read, role-played, corrected when necessary, role-played some more and, finally, to be practiced

This picture book is very helpful for teaching the missing social skills of the high functioning guys I work with. The pictures are clear and concrete examples of a high school setting. Since all the guys I work with are out of school we have to adapt it to their situations. They stay more engaged with it because it seems like a comic book. With this support they are better able to practice the skills. The suggestions in the book have also helped me to think about social skills in greater detail. Then I can break down new skills to make an individual picture book for each guy. Its not inexpensive, but it's worth it
