Gryphons flying past skyscrapers? Wizards battling it out in coffeehouses? Women riding motorcycles with large swords strapped to their backs? All normal sights since the Great Collision happened twenty-six years ago.

Well, not normal for everyone. Larissa Miller may have been born after the Great Collision, but as a history teacher who lives in the human-only city,

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time and I have hundreds on my Nook and hundreds on my Kindle! It has nice mix of gargoyles, vampires, mages, etc. to read about and the characters are all entertaining!!! It has over 600 pages but they go by so quickly I can't wait for the next book!

I loved the concept of why there is magic on earth. Great characters, looking forward to more from this author.

The start of this book is a bit chaotic and confusing - and while I feel that was on purpose - it did make it a little difficult to get into the story. Danielle Monsch has imagined a world where our earth has collided and combined with another dimension in which many of the creatures and races we had thought to be myth actually exist. The main story takes place 26 years after this event. Larissa is a 26 year old young woman born at the very moment of this cataclysmic merging of two realities. Her father and 4 brothers are all police in the same town. This town is supposedly protected by magical wards from many of these new mythical races. And as to be expected - there is something about Larissa that makes her different and special - that she is of course unaware of. The Stone Guardian from the title is actually a Gargoyle. He is the leader of the secretive and feared gargoyles and is called Terak. Terak and Larissa are drawn into a life or death mystery about what makes her special and how it relates to the end of the world. And there is a love story. Between the Gargoyle and the human. And that would be ok - if it wasn't so awkwardly  portrayed. Monsch does not seem comfortable writing about and expressing sexual thoughts and situations - so you end up with 2 twentysomething adults expressing their sexual desires and wishes like gawky teens in the middle of puberty. And they are both virgins. I don't know if this is a nod to the ridiculous Twilight series or some misplaced nod to old fashioned Christian values - either way it gets in the way of what is basically a decent and interesting story - and that is unfortunate. A good concept, some decent writing and the start of intriguing characters are bogged down by the fact that the author can't decide whether she is writing a YA novel or more mature adult fiction. If she can make a decision and embrace it - and leave out the awkward sex scenes - this series could be alright. I was provided a gratis copy for review.

I read a lot, maybe a book a week. And truth be known, I was bored. I felt like I kept reading the same book over and over again with different character names in different settings, but essentially the same book. Then I found this jewel! Great story. Enthralling plot. Interesting characters. Four days in, and one book down. I can't wait to read the next one.

the book is well written and brings you to a world that most fantasy books don't go. its not what I would call a great book but definitely worth the read. Fyi - there is a little adult content so warning for the easily offended reader. Its really on a few small parts

RATING 4.5 STARS Stone Guardian is book one in the Entwined Realms series by Danielle Monsch. Twenty-six years ago the world as we knew it stopped. When the earth began to rumble and shake, it somehow caused the realms to collide, later to be called the Great Collision. Suddenly beings only ever seen in fairy tales roamed the earth, zombies, dragons, werewolves, and the list goes on. Jack Miller, a cop, was at work, trying to get to the hospital where his wife was giving birth. But, he didn’t arrive in time to witness the birth of his only daughter, or the death of his wife. Now, Larissa Miller is an adult, living in a human only city, trying to be independent of her over protective father and four older brothers. She has only read of the Great Collision in the history books she teaches at school. Her city is protected by wards, keeping all magical beings out. Until the day she was attacked by a horde of zombies. And that was only the beginning. What do they want? Why her? How are they getting through the wards? And in the midst of it all, she is rescued by a being she didn’t even know existed, a gargoyle. But she wasn’t afraid of him. Somehow he made her feel safe. Terak is leader of the entire clan of gargoyles. His clan was his life, his number one priority, until the day he saw her, his little human. His world shifted, and only she became the center of everything that was important to him. Thus begins Terak and Larissa’s journey. They had to somehow discover what it was about Larissa so many wanted. At the same time, bonds of friendship and maybe even more are forming between them. But along the way, loyalties are tested, between them, between Larissa and her family, and between Terak and his clan. I really enjoyed this. It was my very first book by this author. It was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved watching the relationship slowly grow and develop between Terak and Larissa. If I had one complaint, it was that it took so darn long for any of the good stuff if you know what I mean. I look forward to reading Stone Embrace next, book #1.1, a short kind of epilogue to this one. I definitely hope to explore more of this series and Danielle’s books in the future. “Her gargoyle, her mate, her love.”

While the basis behind the story isn't new, the way everything was brought together was. There is mystery and intrigue enough for me to read the next book to find out more about the background characters. It was low on drama, but still had action and romance, which I loved. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
