This is an incredible mixture of fantasy and sci-fi that pull the reader along through its myriad of maze-like story line. Yet the story is incredibly easy to comprehend. With plasma rays blasting you wouldn't think to find sword play, yet Somers has combined these to work in the most fantastic (no pun intended) of ways. Probably the biggest thrill is that the end of this book isn't the end of the story. I'm looking forward to reading more.

I'm a fan of Star Wars, Star Trek and Dune. All are great series with depth, character and epic storylines. Well, now I have a new series to add to my list of favorites. The Chronicles of Soone is a space epic with a spiritual twist. Strange creatures abound, noble warriors fight to the death and sinister forces wreak havoc throughout. If you are a fan of Matthew Reailly's non-stop action thrillers, you'll find the same kind of action here, but with infinitely more heart. This a great story for adults and for the kids. After reading this novel I imagined what the outcome of one of these Baruddi warriors facing off against a Jedi Knight would be. The answer came quick. While the Jedi was still exchanging whitty quips the Barudii would have already lopped off the Jedi's hands with his Barudii blade. These good guys know how to fight! A brilliant read.

I was first drawn to this book by the description and cool cover. But I didn't know the author. I decided to take a risk on it, and wasn't disapointed at all. There is more action in this sci-fi thriller than you can shake a stick at, yet I was still able to grow attached to the main characters. There are some surprises along the way...without giving them away I'll say that with this author, no one is safe. I appreciated the realism in that sense...and the outright imagination in others. The spiritual elements are there, but don't consume the story, though they certainly add to it. This is more about honor, courage and the fight for freedom...something we can all appreciate. It should be mentioned that while at times violent, this story is appropriate for all ages and would be enjoyed as much by a 13 year old as an adult. Either way, this one's worth checking out.
