In Defense of The Fielding Bible II I just finished reading the Fielding Bible II, by John Dewan and I have the following thought: We still have a long way to go to bridge the knowledge gap as far as defensive statistics goes. While most number crunchers and scouts agreed this season on the Cy Young and MVP award winners, we are still a long way off on agreeing on the Gold Glove winners. This is exactly why if I was named commissioner of baseball tomorrow, I would require all Gold Glove voters to read the Fielding Bible. So the question then becomes, for those of us who don't vote for Gold Glove winners, why should we read the Fielding Bible? Well, for the simple reason that the information in the Fielding Bible will cause the "Molina's" of the world to make sense. Meaning, sometimes personnel decisions based on defense don't make sense without access to the defensive numbers that simply cannot be found anywhere other than the Fielding Bible. So, thank you John Dewan for continuing to fight the good fight against fielding ignorance and for bringing us the Fielding Bible. from mlbexpertanalysis.com

While you may not understand all of the new concepts and numbers that The Fielding Bible throws at you, it's well worth it for the ones you do understand. It's the most insightful, groundbreaking and informative work on understanding baseball defense that I've ever read. It's fills a huge void in our understanding of the game.
