The market is crowded with books purporting to be the authoritative guide for pregnant women attempting to maintain a green lifestyle while caring for the baby to be, but most such books are not much more than product endorsements. I found this book to be especially helpful because I am hoping to be a mommy in the near future and as a prospective mother to be, I've been searching for an unbiased objective guide through the increasingly crowded aisles of the green produce and household products sections in the grocery store. Most importantly, the author never patronizes the reader, as so many of the green authors are apt to do. Her advice is simply frank and her recipes are yummy.

a friend bought this book for me as a gift---weird at first blush because i am not pregnant (and she wasn't hinting), but really, totally appropriate because i enjoy an organic, vegan and wheat-free diet. the nutritional information section geared for expectant mothers, charting the vitamins and minerals they and their nearly-newborn baby need and which foods are best to find them, is terrifically elaborate and scientifically backed. in fact, i was able to cull some pointers suitable for my own lifestyle and went right to my farmers' market and health-food store. my cabinets are now stocked for my attempts at ms. mclean's quick'n'easy recipe chapter, found at the rear of the book. all are uncomplicated (however, all the recipes are not wheat-free or vegan; modifications are not terribly tough, so don't lose heart), which is perfect for the tired (i can imagine) pregnant woman, or the girl-about-town who wants something tasty, healthy and simple to prepare.

I bought this as a gift for my pregnant wife and she loved it. She said that it does not overwhelm you with too much information or challenge you with unacheivable goals. It's a really quick read with helpful tips and healthy recipes with fun names like "brunette bombshell party balls." I can't wait for my wife to cook some of the recipes that we will eat together.
