From the outside looking in, the Jones family has it all: power, wealth, beauty. But when one scratches the surface, things are not as great as they seem. Royce, the family patriarch, is the owner of a once thriving funeral business. Will his shady business ventures cause him to lose his family’s wealth and prestige in the community? Lexi, his wife of over twenty years, is obsessed with appearances. She will do any and everything to keep her family’s reputation blemish free. Her secrets, however, threaten to derail the marriage she is so proud of. Lovie is the couple’s son. He reluctantly becomes a part of the family business and what he uncovers threatens to tear the family apart. Charity and Hope are the two daughters. Beautiful and self-absorbed, their relationship with their family and each other begins to unravel in the face of tragedy. The Joneses are at a crossroads and their lives are falling apart. This is the first novel I have read by Shelia Goss and I found it to be very entertaining. Although the characters are very shallow, I did find myself caught up in the drama-filled story of secrets, lies, and the tangled webs woven by the characters. The storyline itself is a bit flat and predictable and the ending sets the story up for a sequel. However, I have had enough of the Joneses and wouldn’t be interested in reading any more about their lives. Reviewed by: Flashette

Everybody wants to keep up with the Joneses...but as Mrs. Lexi Jones so eloquently stated, being a Jones takes some work! The story is told from each member of the Jones Family. First, there's Royce, the Patriarch and owner of RJ Funeral home. He is married to the lovely Lexi...who is a homemaker but is there for Royce in any way she needs him. Then, there's the oldest child...Lovie, an accountant who has his own way to make money outside of the family business. Then, there are the daughters, Charity and Hope. How will they handle it when the family business is suddenly not doing so well? Their parents have been so generous over the years that none of them have ever had to worry about money. Now, Hope will have to stop her frequent out of town trips, spa days and shopping sprees. Lexi will have to stop her trips to the country club and the salon. What will they do? Well...amidst all of their money woes, we find out that there are some secrets in the Jones family. Well who did what? When did they do it?! Why? Can the family recover? What's it like to be a member of the Jones family? Well grab this book and go on the wild ride. You'll be flipping pages with an urgency that ends abruptly when Shelia gives us a cliffhanger on the last page! WHAT?!!! *faints* Ah well...tune in...you'll have to see what all goes down with the Joneses then get your mouth ready for what's to come later!
