Titus Lucretius Carus (c. 99 - 55 B.C.) was a Roman Epicurean poet and philosopher. Little is known of his life for certain. Jerome reported that Lucretius was driven mad by a love philtre and composed his poetry in his few lucid moments, only to eventually committ suicide. Modern scholars have increasingly questioned this account of Lucretius' life.
