Overview

The Ten Commandments of Theater is a ten-chapter, step-by-step handbook to guide theater actors through the acting process from the moment they are first cast in a role until the final curtain comes down. Each chapter is written as a Commandment - a rule of the theater that must be respected in order to achieve success in a particular performance, as well as an overall acting career. Unlike many other acting handbooks, The Ten Commandments of Theater is concise and understandable for even the greenest of actors. It is a must for young and veteran actors alike, providing tried-and-true techniques to help create a more successful acting process.

About the Author

Foreword

It has been Anne Johnston-Brown's goal since becoming an actor to make her résumé as diverse as possible, and she has been blessed to have played a host of wonderful roles. It is through these many experiences and years of training that Anne has accumulated the insights and principles she shares in this book. The Ten Commandments of Theater was initially written as a gift to the kids who performed with her in The Sound of Music. The book was so popular that she was compelled to print more copies and eventually expand on the ideas presented.
Anne is an avid follower of the Stanislavski teachings, which form the basis for Method acting. She has developed her acting principles based on the Method and corroborates each of her Commandments with quotes from Constantin Stanislavski's book, An Actor's Handbook. Anne's acting handbook is worded as concisely as possible to simplify the complicated. Actors of all ages will find it clear and understandable. In this new revised edition, she has added a section, The Book of Auditioning. In it she provides practical advice, divided into ten points, covering topics that range from finding and scheduling audition appointments to preparing headshots and résumés, as well as advice on professional audition conduct and etiquette. This book is dedicated to all aspiring thespians. Your dreams can be realized!
