Good short story! Remember just because you don't volunteer someone else might do so on your behalf! Spoiler: Mr. Lee's stories are VERY short, only 8ish to 10ish pages. But if you like twilight zonish stories then check out his other stories, they are free! My favorite is "the Weekender".

I've enjoyed most by this author but found this one just stupid.

The story starts with a snoring noise, progresses from a hen-pecked husband's side of a marriage, but the finish....oh, the finish is delicious.

"Volunteer" was okay. The ending was obvious. Plot: He wanted to get rid of his awful girlfriend, so why not sign her up to join the aliens? It was quick, but I did not like any of the characters. In my opinion, he should have been sent with her, for being so irritating himself. "Project Marconi" from the story, sounds a lot like the work that the real SETI installations do regularly. Except, of course, for the involuntary volunteers. And, actually getting aliens to respond to the signals that are sent out. Okay to read. Very fast read at 15 Nook pages. The plot is simple, and yet so weird. The characters were unlikeable. The story is unbelievable. -AvidReader
