I was disappointed to see that a great deal of this book talks about Cary Stayner's 'frontal lobe injury' that may explain why he killed...I would prefer to read more facts about the case, or more background if the victims. This book almost seems to defend, or justify, these sick tragic deaths.

Crimes have a cause• Is it not better for us to examine and validate those causes to better aid in prevention? Or to simply annotate the tragedy of the victims, which, although certainly valid, does nothing but memorialise the loss without doing anything to prevent future victims• Imagine, had someone identified Stayner's brain injury beforehand, and knew of the possible effects, perhaps this story might never have been told and all involved might still be alive• Punitive measures after the fact have their uses• This country has focussed too much on that though; we've long neglected research and humane prevention in favour of heavy handed justice• If crimes are perpetrated by individuals who can be treated to prevent those crimes then we're doing nothing in the area of public safety; we are only compounding victims - the victims of the crime as well as the offender and his family - needlessly• That is true injustice to an entire society hiding under the guise of false safety• Just a thought•••
