Transforming Prayer by Daniel Henderson is a must read for anyone looking to revolutionize their prayer life. Henderson is a senior pastor and has been putting on worship prayer conferences around the country for years Now he takes the wisdom he has learned from these workshops and his own study and puts it in this book to help readers develop their own prayer life. The book is filled with testimonials from several people who have attended the conferences and have had their lives, both prayer life and whole life, transformed. Henderson uses Scripture and Jesus' own instructions in the Lord's Prayer to get to the nitty-gritty of prayer. He convicts readers (me included) of often praying a "grocery list" of prayers, just checking off a list and using prayer to seek God's hand to fix things for us, rather than seeking His face, which should be the true focus of prayer. He offers a four-step guide to prayer using a music conductor as a guide. Here are some terrific quotes from the book: We attempt to use prayer to get our will done in heaven rather than His will done on earth. Asking [in prayer] is the doorway...to discovering the profound joy of a transformed life. What motivates us to ask can often be all over the map. What motivates our Father to answer is that He would be glorified in our prayers through the person and work of His Son, Jesus Christ. This is an excellent book for anyone looking to transform their prayer life by seeking His face, and not His hand.

We know that prayer is important, but our prayer lives don't always reflect that importance. In this book, Daniel Henderson reminds readers of the necessity of seeking God's face and not just His hand. He emphasizes that prayer shouldn't be an afterthought or boring, but by praying with an open Bible we can take our "prayer life from ordinary to extraordinary"! I was very interested in this book before I started, just because of the book's description and what I had already heard about it. I really appreciated that Daniel Henderson said, "The goal is not to train you in a new technique but to motivate you to a life of prayer, according to the teachings of Christ." I do not need one more new technique but I do want new life in my times of prayer. As I was reading the book, I became more and more aware of how thirsty I was for more of Jesus. I was so glad that examples were included of how to use the Bible to worship Him in my prayer time. Now I am challenged to take my "prayer from ordinary to extraordinary"! Disclosure: I received book free from Bethany House Book Reviewers program. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Have you found yourself in a place where prayer has become stale and mundane? Do you come to God with a grocery list of prayer requests, only to find when you are done handing God your list, you still feel empty? Is there still power in prayer, you might be asking. I am here to tell you, there is! In Daniel Henderson's book "Transforming Prayer", he addresses these very issues that many Christians face. Grocery list prayer has never worked for any believer who has wanted true transformation in their life. Making a list of prayer requests and seeking the hand of God to move on a believer's behalf was not God's intention for prayer. God intended prayer to be a two-way communication between the Creator and the creation. Henderson presents a life-changing method that is not new to the Christian community. The fundamental difference between our prayer lists and the prayer concerns we find the Bible is that we pray about personal problems, while most of the biblical prayers focus on Christ's purposes. (page 87) How do we change the nature of how we pray? It can only come through worship-based prayer. Worship-based prayer seeks the face of God to bring transformation and not His hand. Daniel Henderson explains in "Transforming Prayer" the basics and foundation of worship-based prayer. He will guide through the "4/4 pattern" of prayer, as well as direct you in the most effective questions you can ask while on this journey of prayer. It also comes with chapter-by-chapter questions for application and discussion. I would recommend this book to any Christian who truly wants transformation in their prayer lives. This book can only become effective if you are to put the principles of what Henderson teaches into practice. Then and only then will you see that everything changes when you seek God's face! I have received this complimentary book from Bethany House, through the bloggers program. The views and opinions are my own.

Prayer is essential to the daily Christian life. What good is reading the Bible, evangelizing, attending church, and fellowshipping with other believers when you don't talk directly with your Creator and Savior? On that note, transforming, impacting prayer is also essential for a solid Christian life. Without it, God cannot show His true power to His children. Transforming prayer brings about changes, blessings, deliverance, and revivals. Without prayer, the world will be left to its own devices, and it won't last very long. In his impacting, powerful book, Transforming Prayer, author, leader, and pastor Daniel Henderson explains how you can renew and revive your prayer life, and in doing so experience profound changes in your faith and worship-based prayer. It is a resource you won't want to miss, especially if you, like me, are struggling to develop a consistent prayer life that strengthens your faith beyond what you can imagine.
