I picked up this book because I am a fan of books that present history as the present to evoke a sense of realism. Books like these generally rely on primary documents. The issue here is that few Scandinavian sources from the Viking Age exist, since it was Christianity that pushed literacy into the north (runic inscriptions aside). This book is forced to rely on many sources that post date the time at hand by centuries. Over all I did find this book to be entertaining, and I learned a couple of things. However, anyone thinking of using this book primarily as a learning tool for the Viking Age should double check all facts and look into the sources because I did find a couple of inaccuracies in the mythology.
This book is good...NOT.
