Julia Belden and Nick Sitello were immediately drawn to each other. However, they both had major baggage. Julia had just signed her divorce papers. Nick's wife had died of cancer almost two years ago. Nick had an 8 year-old son, Sammy. When the Sitello men rescued Julia when the pier at Julia's family cabin collapsed, they rushed to rescue her. That began an unusual attraction between the two that developed into an interesting, fun read. Things would have been great if Sammy hadn't gotten sick and Julia had not started getting those strange phone calls. Julia and Carl had a shell of a marriage for ten years. After their divorce, his former boss, and friend, contacted Julia and asked her to help Carl recover from his addictions. Nick could not understand why she felt the need to help Carl overcome his meltdown. This, of course, caused an additional set of problems. Ms. Donna Marie has presented her readers with a fast moving, interesting romance. Her main characters were poignant individuals who had traumatic pasts. Their summer romance was plagued with other mishaps. The characters were believable and captured my sympathy the further they journeyed into their new relationship. The secondary characters were so appealing. They were many but there were only a few who trekked through the story with them. Even though they didn't all appear constantly in the book, they were so important for the telling of the story. This author has an exciting way of portraying both her characters and the vivid scenery. The sensuality was evident. However, the storyline was wonderfully understated which made it a book for all ages. I recommend this book and will definitely read this author's work whenever I get the opportunity.
