Weslandia is about a young, creative, outcast named Wesley who needs a summer project. Not interested in the same things ¿normal¿ kids are, he comes up with a plan that will blow you away, and catch the interest of the neighborhood kids who torment him! This book by Paul Fleischman follows Wesley through an adventure unlike any other. Wesley is an independent and resourceful kid who is wiser than his years. I found myself not believing what he was coming up with next! I would love to use this book as a read aloud followed by an activity where we use resources found in the classroom or outside of our school for our shelter, clothing, recreation, and food. After reading this to my students I hope they will be inspired by Wesley and be creative in their choices. The illustrations are vibrant and full of action. A book that is not only exciting to read, but it has a good message about being true to yourself no matter what!

I couldn't be more pleased with the book 'Weslandia.' My child and I read the book almost weekly, and he never tires of the vibrant illustrations and silly, yet smart story. When I first read this book I knew it would become a family favorite. The story of this boy in his own little world gives a good moral, that it's okay to be the different kid. Also, in being different, you may become what others would like to be. Trendset, explore, and most of all - Be yourself!
