I read a library copy of this book years ago, and have been looking for it ever since. I am excited it is back in print. Buy it while you can find it! Woodrell presents a side of the conflict largely neglected in the popular press. While his language can be over the top in modern writing, for this period piece his voice is effectively authentic.
Decent, but I definitely prefer his Ozark characters to his westerns. A page turner, but some of his other work is better.
