About the Author

The Federal Writers Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) was created by the federal government during the Great Depression to put thousands of unemployed writers to work.

Cathy Wurzer is the host of Morning Edition on Minnesota Public Radio and cohost of Almanac on Twin Cities Public Television. She has been honored with four Emmys for her work on Almanac. She is also the author of Tales of the Road: Highway 61.
