Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Learning to count from one to ten is a basic skill that most kids should be able to handle before kindergarten. There are numerous counting books, so there is a real need to create a book that will stand out. "Ugly Boards" appears to be one series that offers a bit of silly humor with offbeat characters. The Uglies are certainly that. They also have some interesting advice—always buying two of a game or toy—one to keep nice and the other to share when friends come over to play. There are some good learning points—why do mittens always come in pairs, and there are a variety of visual puns that only adults will understand (aisle nine and isle nine). If you want a little different take on your normal counting books, try this one. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
